October is the month that the world comes together to support the fight against breast cancer. Not only is the battle done through real-life donation drives and organizations, but also through video game companies that celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and truly care about the cause. Not one to be left out, Capcom recently unveiled two new limited-time themed Street Fighter 5 costumes for popular fighting characters Chun-Li and Ryu, where proceeds from each purchase will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Capcom is not the only video game company that has outfitted their characters in theme with Breast Cancer Awareness month. Many gamers would most likely recall the pink Mercy skin from Overwatch, which was able to raise up to 10 million back when it first came out in 2018. This goes to show that gamers will likely support purchasing skins and costumes, as long as they know their money will be used for good. With Ryu and Chun-Li being two of the most known characters in the Street Fighter series, it is no wonder Capcom chose to dress them up for the cause.
On Twitter, the official Street Fighter account announced that the Breast Cancer Awareness-themed costumes for Chun-Li and Ryu will be available on October 12. Several photos of the costumes in action were also shared, showing how both characters would look in pink. Another variation of the outfits are done in mostly white, with pink accents, for players who prefer a more subtle look for their fighters. Though there are already a lot of available Street Fighter 5 skins for Ryu and Chun-Li, this set will likely entice gamers who like to support good causes.
The Chun-Li and Ryu charity costumes will only be available for purchase on the Street Fighter 5 Steam and the PlayStation 4 store pages from October 12 to November 12, 2021. This gives players one month to consider buying the skins. What's more, Capcom has yet to reveal the price point of the outfits, and whether they can be bought individually or as a set.
Nevertheless, fans only have to wait a couple more days until the outfits are implemented onto the PC and console versions of Street Fighter 5. Players are likely hoping that Capcom will offer the skins at a fair cost. Doing so will likely entice them to help support the fight against breast cancer, and convince them to complete their purchases.
