One of the biggest criticisms surrounding Street Fighter 5 at launch was its lack of content. Over time, Capcom has added everything from new characters to a comprehensive story mode to the game. One thing that has remained a topic of discussion was the continued absence of a dedicated arcade mode, a staple of most fighters where players take on an enemy one after another until reaching a boss. After nearly two years, Capcom is finally bringing the number one requested feature to Street Fighter 5 in a brand new version of the game.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the franchise, Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition is the definitive version of the game, packing in every character, piece of content, and modes. The newly introduced Arcade Mode adds six different arcade ladders, each modelled after a previous game in the franchise. The package also includes Extra Battle Mode, a second V-Trigger for all characters, and a completely redesigned user interface including colors, menu items, effects, and more. Capcom has also confirmed that the new edition will include one new fighter, which the company isn’t ready to reveal quite yet.

While Capcom is known for releasing multiple iterations of its games, especially Street Fighter, the Arcade Edition will be a completely free update to current Street Fighter 5 owners. Alternatively, players who don’t yet own the title can purchase this new edition for $39.99 when it launches on January 16, 2018.

The road for Capcom has been rougher than expected as of late thanks to an underwhelming start for Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite and the underperforming Street Fighter 5. After struggling at launch due to server issues and a perceived lack of content, Capcom has instead stuck by the game and continued to add more and evolve the experience through updates. Still, with a lot of competition now on store shelves like Injustice 2 and Tekken 7, it’ll be interesting to see if fans give this game another chance even with all of the added content and updates.

Street Fighter 5 is available now on PC and PlayStation 4.
