Millions of people watch streamers  on Twitch, Mixer, and YouTube for entertainment, to learn about new games, and to be part of a community. However, streaming is also often talked about because of the controversies that its streamers cause and it seems that rarely a week goes by without some streamer coming under fire for saying or doing something offensive.

5 Ninja Says the N Word

New Mixer streamer Ninja is one of the most popular streamers around (he has even streamed Fortnite with Drake), but the streamer's rise to the top hasn't been without controversy. In March 2018, Ninja was streaming and singing along to a rap song when he said the N word.

While the Fortnite streamer quickly issued an apology and explained that he'd just gotten tongue tied while singing the song, it left many on high alert. In May, less than two months after this, Ninja announced that he would be trying not to curse in his streams anymore, something which should help the streamer avoid any more slip ups like this.

4 Alinity's Animal Abuse

Twitch streamer Alinity became a global news story last month when a video spread that appeared to show her abusing her cat. She threw the cat over her head and tricked it into drinking alcohol in a video which prompted an investigation by an animal welfare organization and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA, called for Twitch to ban her.

While PETA, a Twitch employee, and a petition all suggested that Alinity should be banned from the platform, that didn't happen. The Twitch moderation team chose not to ban Alinity from the platform in a decision which proved to be just as controversial as Alinity's behavior itself.

E3 2019 was a time of major game announcements and reveals, but there was also a major story about one of gaming's biggest personalities. Dr Disrespect chose to share his experience at the gaming event with an IRL stream that saw him broadcasting live from a bathroom. While the streamer isn't really know for his respectful behavior and has gotten into spats with people such as PlayerUnknown from the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds development team, Twitch saw the bathroom streaming as a step too far.

Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch temporarily and the streamer chose to break character to apologize for what happened. However, when he came back, he chose to poke some fun at his Twitch ban, with some asking if he really did take the punishment seriously.

Gaming YouTuber PewDiePie is often in the news for his controversial behavior so few were surprised when one of his gaming streams ended in controversy too. While streaming PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, PewDiePie used the n word, prompting huge backlash on social media and Firewatch developer Campo Santo also filed copyright takedowns on his videos of their games.

The YouTuber did apologize and called his actions "immature and stupid." However, just days after issuing the apology, PewDiePie did another stream of the game where he nearly said the racial slur again.

Twitch streamer Ice Poseidon was banned from the live streaming platform in 2017 for leaking his own location, which caused him to be swatted and for his flight to be grounded because of a bomb threat. The streamer has also been accused of racist behavior, using racial slurs and sharing anti-Mexican sentiments in his broadcasts.

Ice Poseidon may be banned from Twitch, but he could soon be back to his controversial streaming ways. Mixer's co-founder tweeted his support for Ice Poseidon after the streamer said that he'd been thinking about joining the platform to do some chill gaming streams.
