Last month, Twitch streamer BrookeAB announced she was taking a break from the game streaming site after receiving multiple threats. She broke her silence on social media on August 2 to explain why she decided to take a hiatus.

The 21-year-old streamer only began her career on Twitch last year, but quickly gained popularity and income which encouraged her to take it on as a full-time job. Unfortunately, her success in streaming brought on some consequences that pushed her to take some time off Twitch and social media.

BrookeAB posted on Twitter after a month of silence thanking her supportive fans and informing them that she is currently “working through something incredibly painful.” She was last live on Twitch almost exactly a month ago for a sponsored stream of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, then revealed on Twitter that messages from strangers were threatening to dox her. Thus, exposing her extremely personal information, which was deeply concerning her and her safety. This first came as a shock to BrookeAB because she herself didn’t understand what might have caused such behavior from people.

Comparably, with similar concerns for the protection of personal information, Twitch streamer Pokimane recently shared in an OfflineTV Podcast that she doesn’t like viewers calling her by her real name. The fact that her viewers are technically strangers makes it feel invasive and uncomfortable for Pokimane. She recently opened up about how being an influencer in LA can be exhausting due to the amount of superficial, social media obsessed crowds that could be disturbing for her personal life, much like how it is panning out for BrookeAB.

Correspondingly, after BrookeAB’s incident took place, she has advised her followers to take time away from social media and devices to spend more time bonding with loved ones. She also added that she will eventually reveal and confirm what went down “when the time is right” so that they too can grow with her to build a healthy and supportive community together.

BrookeAB ended her message with some good news, sharing that she will be back to streaming soon and is looking forward to doing so. She also took this time to ask her fans to aid themselves and those whom they know who are dealing with mental health issues to seek help from trusted sources.
