A popular yet faceless Chinese streamer known as “Your Highness Qiaobiluo” who was thought to be a young woman accidentally revealed herself to be much older thanks to a glitch in one of her streams.

The woman, whose real name is Qiaobiluo Dianxia, posted photos and short clips to the Chinese streaming platform DouYu that showed her as much younger, and her fans bought the ruse. She used Snapshat-style face filters to create the images and had gained over 130,000 followers, who affectionately referred to her as a “cute goddess.”

Dianaxia gained notoriety with the face filter as a singer, but she also live-streamed games from time to time. During these streams, she would position the camera from the neck down and obscure her face from view. As reported by the Global News, Dianaxia collected over $14,000 USD during the years she posed as a younger woman.

But all of this changed during a joint live-stream on July 25th with another user who goes by Qingzi. During the chat, Dianaxia used an anime sticker to cover her face. Viewers, who probably assumed she was just protecting her identity for her safety, submitted donations to the stream, but soon began to ask Dianaxia to remove the sticker and reveal her face. The streamer responded with a proposition: that if she received donations that equalled about $12,000 USD, she would show her face.

“I can’t show my face until I receive gifts worth 100,000 yuan,” she said, and added “After all, I’m a good-looking host.” The donations began pouring in. One viewer even donated the equivalent of $5,813 USD.

As the two streamers continued to chat, something went wrong with Dianaxia’s stream, and the anime sticker disappeared, revealing her true face. She didn’t notice at first and the conversation continued, albeit a little bit awkwardly. Qingzi could clearly see what had happened, but didn’t mention it. Suddenly, viewers started disappearing from the stream, which got Daianaxia’s attention, who then had to address the situation directly.

While this isn’t the most awkward thing to happen on a live-stream, many of her male followers saw it as a deception and have unsubscribed from her channel and retracted their donations. They believe Dianaxia simply wanted to con her audience and swindle money out of them.

Others, however, have begun defending Dianaxia. They have compared what she did to streamers who have had work done, and have implied that the streamer wouldn’t have gotten as far as she if her looks were the only reason people were watching. One fan went so far as to refer to her affectionately as “the world’s best granny,” although that title is sadly already taken.

Dianaxia now has over 400,000 followers and is the most-searched streamer on Douyu. She has begun streaming regularly again, no longer obscuring her face, and is reportedly working on a rap song.
