Now that Stray is officially out, it has become one of the more popular releases this month. Getting to play as a cat that roams a post-apocalyptic city is quite fun for a lot of video game fans. In fact, people who finish the story in Stray might want to move onto something similar.

While there is already demand for a Stray sequel to come from BlueTwelve Studio, it doesn't appear that will happen anytime soon given how fresh this indie title is on the market. Luckily there are some games out that can give players a similar feeling as Stray, while also potentially offering different ways to play and new stories to explore.

Night In The Woods

Night in the Woods Stray

Like Stray, Night in the Woods allows players to take on the role of a cat who goes on quite the adventure. There are some big differences between the two games, from their art style to the anthropomorphic nature of characters like Mae. Night in the Woods also has a completely different setting, so Mae and other characters will not be hanging out with some sort of alien race in a cyberpunk city. But if people are looking for something that allows them to play as cute animals, this game will certainly scratch that itch.

Untitled Goose Game

Untitled Goose Game Stray

While Night in the Woods gives a cute cat more human characteristics, Untitled Goose Game is basically Stray if the main character was a goose whose main purpose was to annoy every single person they run across. That's one of the reasons Untitled Goose Game has gotten as popular as it has over the years, because the point is to act as most people would assume a real goose does in everyday life. The title does a great job giving users the catharsis of being a big jerk.

Goat Simulator

Goat Simulator exploding truck

Speaking of being as big a jerk as possible, Goat Simulator takes that conceit to a whole new level. Like Stray, this title allows players to step into the skin of a real-life animal - though there's certainly unrealistic aspects in the sandbox world of Goat Simulator, such as headbutting trucks until they explode. Parts of the franchise take "being a goat" in strange and hilarious directions, and this series has gotten so popular that there's going to be a sequel called Goat Simulator 3 in the near future.

BioMutant

BioMutant takes what Stray has to offer as far as portraying the role of an animal and takes things one step further. Instead of being a kitty trying to solve complex problems with just its four paws, BioMutant gives players all kinds of different weapons to solve puzzles and beat combat encounters put in front of them. It also allows users to change up the kind of animal or animals they use. Its far-future, post-apocalyptic setting and the lack of human beings also tie this game to Stray in a very real way.

Tokyo Jungle

Tokyo Jungle is a cult-classic game that has quite a few similarities to Stray, taking place in a city where humans have disappeared and players embody the role of different animals. The two games are also similar in that they don't use anthropomorphized animals or mutants, but ordinary animals in an unusual setting. Tokyo Jungle is also popular enough that a sequel has been called for. Stray might even help show that a Tokyo Jungle sequel would be welcomed on modern consoles.

Stray is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
