Adorable cat game Stray has been getting a lot of attention for its unique premise, featuring a cat as the game's main playable protagonist. Unsurprisingly, the game has gotten the attention of modders, with many mods already available for Stray despite it only being a week old at this point. One of the latest Stray mods combines the game with one of the most famous fictional cats of all time: Garfield.

Garfield, the star of the comic strip of the same name, is easily one of fiction's most famous cats, if not the most recognizable fictional cat in history. Garfield has had a pop culture presence for decades, and now he finds himself as the star of Stray thanks to a new mod made by Chris Rubino, uploaded to Nexus Mods. The mod replaces Stray's playable cat with one that looks like Garfield, so fans of the comic book strip may want to check it out if they have the PC version of the game.

Those with the PC version of Stray are able to download all kinds of mods for the game, with many focused on replacing the player-character cat with a different model. This Garfield mod makes a lot of sense, though a different mod bizarrely replaces the cat with CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, contorting his body to fit the dimensions of a cat in the process.

While many Stray mods have been focused on changing the cat into different characters, there have been other mods released for the game as well. One interesting mod changes the "meow" button, swapping it out with a reference to Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain. With that particular mod installed, the Stray cat will yell out "JASON!" whenever players hit the button instead of meowing.

With Stray enjoying strong review scores and positive buzz, it's likely that modders will be inspired to create even more mods for the game in the near future. Mods are a great way to enhance a game's value, but some fans may be hungry for more official Stray content instead.

Stray has been mostly well-received by fans and critics, though some have come away disappointed by its short length. Stray can be fully completed in less than 10 hours, and so some fans of the game may be hoping to see a DLC expansion that gives them more stories to experience in its futuristic world. Nothing to that effect has been announced in an official capacity, but hopefully interesting mods like this keep Stray fans busy in the meantime.

Stray is out now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
