Things are always a little tumultuous around Hawkins, Indiana for Mike, Eleven, and the rest of the Stranger Things crew. After an epic season 3 finale, fans have had to wait longer than usual for season 4 due to COVID-19 related production stalls. Filming on Stranger Things 4 is now underway and new set photos are hinting that things are about to get even messier for Eleven.

The set of Stranger Things photos don't reveal specific details about what may be happening in the scene, but they are enough to create concern for fans of Eleven. The most revealing photo shows a mannequin version of Eleven laying on a hospital stretcher while hooked up to a breathing machine and being wheeled away by two medics. The other photo features a policeman, a bystander, and an armed soldier standing in front of rubble and what could possibly be a disaster site. The last photo features Hawkins Police cars, an ambulance, and various other vehicles in front of a blue screen.

Eagle-eyed fans might notice that one of the medics wheeling Eleven away looks suspiciously like actor Matthew Modine, who plays Dr. Brenner. As fans know, Dr. Brenner is the man who essentially raised and conducted experiments on Eleven in the Hawkins lab, an experience that seems to haunt Eleven through each season. The first teaser trailer for Stranger Things 4 completely revolves around Eleven's experience in the lab, which many have speculated indicates the next season may heavily include flashbacks.

There is no way to confirm that Modine is in the small, grainy photo, though other set images already confirm he has, at least, been on set. If he were in those photos, it could mean the return of Dr. Brenner to Stranger Things after his apparent death by Demogorgon in season 1. It could also indicate that the scene is a flashback, set sometime before the events of season 1. That seems less likely due to the fact that Eleven has long hair in the photo, as opposed to the shaved head she sported back in season 1.

Details surrounding Stranger Things season 4 have been heavily guarded, so until a full-length trailer drops fans do have a few things to obsess and theorize over. Season 4 will feature a number of new characters, including Amybeth McNulty. By her character description, she may be the next female character to infiltrate Mike's friend group since Max, played by Sadie Sink, in season 2. There was also a crop of leaked Stranger Things set photos that seem to heavily indicate that the Upside Down may be taking over Hawkins or another small town nearby.

Stranger Things 4 is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2022.
