Fans eagerly awaiting the fourth season of Netflix's Stranger Things can rejoice as the final teaser trailer has been released. As Eleven adjusts to a new life on the West Coast with the Byers family, it seems something darker is brewing in sunny SoCal.

The new trailer, titled "Welcome to California", is the latest in a series of trailers for Netflix's supernatural juggernaut, the first trailer for which appeared over a year ago in February 2020. Each teaser has been labelled with a number, and this one is 004/004, making it perhaps the last glimpse fans are going to get into the world of Stranger Things 4 pior to its release. It came as part of a celebration from Netflix on Saturday of "Stranger Things Day," a fan event which serves to "commemorate" November 6th, 1983 - the in-universe day that Will Byers first disappeared into the Upside-Down (similar to "Star Wars Day" on May 4th).

The trailer shows Eleven and her adopted family, the Byers, rebuilding their lives in sun-drenched California after the events of season 3. Eleven is writing a letter to Mike, detailing how well she's "adapted" to her new life and new school - over clips of kids ignoring her and sending spit wads her way. She describes how excited she is to see Mike for "the best Spring Break ever", but, of course, this comes with a pinch of salt. An exciting series of quick cuts over unsettling music show gunshots, car chases, explosions, and a very creepy-looking doll. Spring Break is definitely going to be eventful for Eleven, if nothing else.

The move to the West Coast marks a new location for the series, previously solely based in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. All four trailers for this season released by Netflix demonstrate an ambitious expansion of setting in the Stranger Things universe, including the return of a fan-favorite Jim Hopper in icy Russia. The third trailer even teased a trip to the 1950s and a scary old home called "Creel House," which the Hawkins gang later break into in the 80s.

The wait for the fourth season has been a long one due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying production for months in early 2020. No specific date has been released for the new season as of yet, just that it will be Summer 2022, making it two years after the third season's release in July 2019. The delay has disappointed some fans, who previously expected a Fall 2021 release (going by the precedent of the previous seasons being released at the same time they were set and some social media clues of an autumnal-looking fourth season).

Stranger Things is one of Netflix's biggest shows, demonstrated in their report that a massive 40.7 million accounts watched the third season in the four days after its July 4th premiere in 2019. The streaming giant will surely be expecting another huge success with the upcoming fourth season, despite its debut's long delay.

Stranger Things 4 is set to premiere on Netflix in Summer 2022.
