After a long wait, Stranger Things fans finally have something to celebrate. Netflix has dropped a new teaser for the fourth season of the extremely popular series, with exclusive footage of the main characters that offers a glimpse of their return. However, fans will have to wait a little while longer to be able to see their favorite characters on the small screen because season 4 only returns in 2022.

The 30-second teaser confirms the 2022 release and contains several shots from the previous seasons of Stranger Things, acting as a reminder of all the events that have occurred so far. Fans have been waiting for the next season since July 2019, which is when season 3 had aired. A 2022 return means that season 4 will debut after at least two and a half years, and it could be even longer since the release date hasn’t been confirmed yet.

In the final 10 seconds of the Stranger Things season 4 teaser, fans can catch shots from the upcoming season (don’t blink), which include a glimpse of a vintage clock in a dark room, Eleven potentially being arrested, Jim Hopper’s fiery return, and the gang reuniting on their bikes one more time. There are also some darker shots of the group, which could potentially mark their travel to the Upside Down together.

Executive producer and director Shawn Levy also shared the Stranger Things teaser to his Twitter account, and promised fans that “it’ll be worth the wait.” He has previously explained in multiple interviews that the series is being filmed in several locations, which could be one of the reasons why it is taking so long for the next season to arrive. Due to the restrictions created by the ongoing pandemic, the pace of filming has reduced drastically. Additionally, the team has chosen Stranger Things season 4 to be “the most ambitious of the seasons,” making it harder for the crew to bring it all together.

The first teaser for Stranger Things season 4 was released in February of this year, which teased the return of David Harbour’s Hopper. Fans were granted another look at the upcoming season in the second teaser, which dropped in May. It showed some new faces at an institution. As the camera moved, Dr. Martin Brenner’s voice could be heard, teasing his return in the next season.

“Today, I have something very special planned for you,” he is heard saying as the camera pans to a door marked “11.” Since then, fans have suspected Dr. Brenner could somehow return to cause more suffering for Eleven when Stranger Things season 4 begins.

Stranger Things is in production at Netflix and will return in 2022.
