Stranger Things is officially back!... sort of! With the Netflix hit series' fourth season just around the corner, fans have been dying for any sort of sneak peek they can get. Well, it appears the showrunners gave the people what they wanted because now the world has its first hint of what the show's fourth season is going to be about.

Stranger Things' YouTube channel recently released the first eight minutes of the show's upcoming fourth season. These first eight minutes detail a flashback to several years before the start of Stranger Things began. The flashback may serve as a warning to the viewer that one of the main characters may not be as good-hearted as viewers initially believed when the show first began, which could lead to major ramifications in the upcoming fourth season.

The flashback revolves around "Papa" or Dr. Brenner back in 1979 when he had his subjects over at Hawkins National Laboratory. While he's performing a test on "Ten" to see how strong his supernatural abilities are, a huge commotion begins at the lab with many workers and subjects crying in terror. After being knocked unconscious, Brenner wakes up to see all the death and destruction around the facility and searches for the responsible party. Once he does, he asks the party why they would do something like this, only for the responsible party to be revealed as a younger Eleven.

Viewers already know that Eleven and Dr. Brenner have a complicated history together. Judging by this sneak peek, fans may be getting more elaboration on their relationship leading up to her escape. The show demonstrated earlier how dependent Eleven once was on Dr. Brenner so perhaps she committed the mass murder out of envy for the other subjects. The show is sure to reveal what the motive was. Nonetheless, this also demonstrates that our main characters could be in potential danger if there's a more aggressive side to Eleven that fans have yet to see.

This definitely brings some well-needed intrigue to the show given how much its lost in that department. However, if Eleven truly had this diabolical side to her all along, why was this not been touched upon until now? There have been multiple episodes throughout the series that have demonstrated that Eleven has morals and knows the difference between right and wrong. So who's this girl in this clip? Is it her showing off her darker self or is this possibly an identical evil twin? If it's the latter, then things just got out of hand. In a good way.

Given that Stranger Things has not been able to recoup the same popularity it had back when the Season 1, these are the new plot threads that the show needs to keep its viewers interested in the story. Stranger Things appealed to viewers because of how well it combined 80s nostalgia with mystery. With three seasons done, that mysterious aspect has faded away. Now that's shedding light on something viewers have not seen from the character before, maybe this is the turning point that gets the show's immense popularity back.

Stranger Things Season 4 Part 1 will premiere on Netflix on May 27, 2022.
