Netflix released volume 1 of Stranger Things season 4 on May 27, and while some complained about the long runtime of each episode, most hardcore fans loved every minute of the first part of the supersized season. This is evident in the official watch figures revealed by Netflix, which confirm that the latest season of Stranger Things is the most-watched English language series on the streamer.

Within three days of its release, Stranger Things season 4 had pulled in 286.79 million hours viewed. Within 10 days, the show's fourth season had moved to the #3 spot on Netflix's list of most-watched English-language series with 621.80 million hours viewed. It has been on Netflix's global top 10 list since its release, and 17 days after its premiere, Stranger Things 4 had been viewed for a total of 781.04 million hours. Keeping in mind that the total runtime of Vol. 1 is 539 minutes, that's a lot of hours in less than a month, making the series climb the charts really quickly.

The top spot on Netflix's list of Most Popular English-language TV series was held by Bridgerton so far, with its second season being watched for a total of 656 million hours and season 1 scoring 625 million hours of view time. Stranger Things 4 has toppled the leader and is now in the top spot less than a month after it premiered. Netflix typically measures a show's viewership for the first 28 days to ensure its position on the all-time list, and Stranger Things 4 still has a few days to go. Perhaps the number will rise even further in the coming week.

Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 Millie Bobby Brown Eleven

Apart from earning a top spot on the list of Most Popular English-language TV series, Stranger Things is now in second place on Netflix's overall list of Most Popular TV series, which includes shows in both English and non-English programming. Currently, the show leading the list is Squid Game, the Korean dystopian drama about 456 contestants participating in children's games to win a large sum of money, only to discover that losing a game means they get killed instantly. The show has a whopping 1.65 billion hours of view time in its first 28 days of release.

Stranger Things first premiered in 2016 and introduced the world to Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven and the mysterious world of the Upside Down. After season 4's release, the first three seasons of Stranger Things have also become more popular on Netflix and scored a total of 149.31 million hours of view time in just the last week. Fans had to wait three years between seasons 3 and 4 due to delays caused by the ongoing pandemic, which could explain why the latest season is garnering so much popularity.
