With the release of the second half of Netflix's Stranger Things season 4, the series has managed to rise in popularity and achieve a goal on the streaming site only done by one other series in the past.

The sci-fi Netflix series Stranger Things is centered around a group of kids and their families in the heart of Hawkins, Indiana. They must fight off many mystical creatures who threaten the town's peace and the lives of those who live there, and the show carries some big themes while also achieving even bigger things simultaneously.

Stranger Things 4 has just become the second series on the Netflix streaming site to accumulate over 1 billion hours of viewership during its first 28 days of being released. The July 1st release of episodes 8 and 9 (which combined clock in at a total of 235 minutes) of Stranger Things season 4 vol. 2 managed to rake in 301.28 million viewership hours with the episodes only being available for three days at the time. The first show on the platform to break this record was the Korean language series Squid Game, which dominated Netflix following its release and still holds the crown with 1.65 billion hours of viewership accumulated when it had only been available for four weeks at the time.

Although Squid Game holds the overall record on the platform, Stranger Things is the first and only English-speaking series to reach the billion-hour watch mark to date. The show was the most-viewed title of the week and appeared in the top ten in 93 countries. Adding to Stranger Things' viewership total was season one, which was watched for 34.5 million hours this week. Season two added 30.3 million hours while season three brought in an additional 30.3 million hours for the week. Despite these record numbers, Squid Game is still expected to retain its crown in hours watched.

With Stranger Things set to return for the fifth season of mystery and action-packed moments, and with its fan base growing every single day, it’s fair to say that the show's next season could perform even better than this one has. Nonetheless, the show reaching this milestone is a monumental achievement for the series, and it continues to reinforce that Stranger Things is a major force to be reckoned with on the Netflix streaming platform.
