Among the myriad of bad things that can happen to the player in Stranded Deep, broken bones are a particularly nasty affliction. Players will know that they have a broken bone after falling from a great height and hearing the accompanying snap. If these visual and auditory cues weren't enough, the player's arm will be twisted out of shape whenever they check their watch. The negative effects of a broken bone are both debilitating and indefinite, so it is in the interest of players to cure any broken bones they get as soon as possible. Though this particularly brutal survival game doesn't spell out exactly how to do so, it's actually quite simple.

Broken Bones Explained

Broken bones are considered a status effect like any other in Stranded Deep, and as such, they can be healed with the right item. Broken bones cause players to take damage whenever they jump and also cause slow but steady damage to the player's health, hunger, and thirst bars (specifically 0.5% damage to health, hunger, and thirst per second).

How to Fix Broken Bones in Stranded Deep

While players may need bandages to cure the bleed status effect or an antidote to cure poison in Stranded Deep, healing broken bones requires the player to use the splint item instead. Simply equip the splint so that the player is holding it like any other item, and then press the left mouse button (or the right trigger on controllers) to use the item. A short animation should play showing the character applying the splint, and then the broken bones status effect should be removed.

To acquire a splint, players will need to craft it using the crafting menu. Making a splint in Stranded Deep requires two lashings and two sticks, both of which should be relatively easy to acquire. Players can craft lashings using Fibrous Leaves, and sticks can either be found near the shore or using the cutting tool on wood logs, driftwood piles, and Ficus trees. After getting two sticks and two lashings, players should be able to craft a splint and use it to cure their broken bones.

Given the mostly aquatic setting of Stranded Deep, one might think that falling would be a rather rare occurrence. Unfortunately, whether it's from climbing trees or falling off of the player's own base, it happens more often than most would like to admit. Having a splint on hand, or at the very least the materials needed to make one is a great way to ensure that players don't limp around on broken bones for too long.

Stranded Deep is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
