The upcoming season of the hit satirical superhero series The Boys started filming in Canada earlier this year. Aya Cash, who played the devious Stormfront in the second season, recently revealed that she isn’t sure if her character will return.

The Boys was developed by Supernatural’s Eric Kripke and premiered in 2019 on Amazon Prime. It is produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s bestselling comic book series with the same name. The series follows a group of vigilantes who strive to take down arrogant super-powered individuals who work for a corrupt multi-billion dollar company. The ensemble cast includes Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, and Chace Crawford as the Deep.

In 2019, Cash was cast as Stormfront, a closet-Nazi superhero who replaced Translucent as a member of the Seven. The character was one of the main antagonists in the second season, capable of manipulating electricity and create plasmablasts. The second season of The Boys concluded with the character's limbs being burnt off. Stormfront was last seen mumbling in German while lying wounded in a forest.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cash stated that her contract for The Boys was only for a year. While she isn’t currently filming The Boys season three, the actress said that the door is open for Stormfront's return since the character is immortal. “Maybe they can CGI my face in," said Cash, while adding, “though, there's not that much left of her...she's not technically dead, but I think you'll just have to see season 3 to find out what happened to her, [or] if she's going to be around at all in her smaller form."

During a social media Q&A, showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that Stormfront isn’t dead. He noted that the character ages very slowly and deserved a fate worse than death. She is trapped in her current state and being held at an undisclosed location. On Twitter, Kripke noted that fans never actually saw Stormfront die and neither he nor Cash will confirm if the character will appear in the upcoming third season of the series.

An untitled The Boys spin-off series from Craig Rosenberg was green-lit by Amazon last year. The spin-off follows a group of young superheroes that attend an American college run by Vought International. Lizzie Broadway (The RookieSplitting Up Together) and Jaz Sinclair (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) were tapped to star in the project. Kripke said that the series is loosely based on the G-Men and will exist in the same universe as The Boys. He hopes that it will be a realistic portrayal of the college experience.

The Boys seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
