The beauty of Dungeons and Dragons and table-top roleplay, in general, is that there is tons of creativity involved, with new campaigns popping up all over the place. Those with a knack for TTRPGs and an immense amount of creativity have created many themed Dungeons and Dragons campaigns that stay true to the source material while incorporating TTRPG elements. Stories Told is a collaborative TTRPG channel on Twitch, co-founded by Harley (breadwitchery) and Hannah (louiseyhannah), that focuses on running new TTRPG campaigns every month, some of which are based on other pop culture media.

Stories Told makes it a habit to showcase both indie and mainstream TTRPG and Dungeons and Dragons systems, with Harley and Hannah switching off each month when it comes to coordinating campaigns. The newest campaign Stories Told is running is based on Good Society, a TTRPG campaign inspired by the works of Jane Austen. In an interview with Game Rant, Harley discussed what the now-airing Good Society campaign is, its cast, and what they’re excited about regarding the campaign.

What is Good Society?

Good Society is a TTRPG campaign based on the works of Jane Austen with a unique system that keeps both the players and GM calling the shots throughout the entirety of the campaign. Harley said that Good Society is interesting because it follows rounds that are largely player-led, so compared to other TTRPG campaigns, the GM will be more of a facilitator than anything else. Some rounds in Good Society include things like events, letter writing, and even rumor-starting. Not every player needs to do every round each time, but it’ll be interesting to see Good Society played out live on the Stories Told Twitch channel.

“So Good Society, compared to a lot of other systems, has a high amount of player autonomy which is fantastic. Also kind of terrifying, but fantastic.”

The Stories Told playthrough of Good Society has also factored in NPCs played by the castmates, so every player will be their own character as well as two NPCs for the other players. Each player has two NPCs from their backstory that will be brought to life onscreen by the other players, so instead of the GM playing NPCs, the players will. It’s an interesting change compared to other Dungeons and Dragons and TTRPG campaigns, but it will be fun to see played out.

The Cast of ‘Good Society’ on Stories Told

Harley and Hannah switch off coordinating campaigns for Stories Told, so a lot of the time they don’t get to participate in them together. This also happens because Stories Told is dedicated to constantly trying out new systems and having new players visit the table. For Good Society, however, Harley and Hannah get to star alongside each other as well as two other players: Kat (katscratchh on Twitter and Twitch) and Lorie (LegendofLorie on Twitter and Lorie on Twitch). Edward Spence will be the GM for the duration of the campaign.

Harley and Hannah have both been in lots of different Stories Told TTRPGs, so they’re not new to the TTRPG game. Kat has been a DM for a lot of other campaigns, so she’s got some TTRPG experience to draw on for Good Society. As Harley recalls, Lorie has a little experience with TTRPGs but is “very much interested in them,” so it’ll be interesting to see Lorie continue to learn about TTRPGs as the Good Society campaign progresses.

“In terms of themes we're going for a more romantic comedy vibe as opposed to a drama or a farce, and it's going to be slightly historically accurate but we're not really sticklers for it. And there will be things where if you're watching the campaign and you donate towards the goal that we're running during the stream, if it gets reached Ed will make something happen, unclear what. It's always been "the GM's going to cause some chaos" bar in the past.”

Jane Austen fans and TTRPG fans won’t want to miss out on the new Stories Told campaign based on Good Society. There will be a lot of autonomy given to players, making it an exciting campaign to watch unfold, especially live.

Stories Told airs its new campaign based on Good Society on Wednesdays at 9 PM BST/1 PM PST.
