Marvel Studios’ first animated series What If…? is all set to premiere on Disney Plus next week and will explore stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, albeit with a unique twist. The studio has been releasing content in the past few days to promote the upcoming series and a new clip introduces fan-favorite Steve Rogers (a.k.a. Captain America) to the world of the animated MCU.

It has already been revealed that the first episode of What If…? will explore the idea of what would have happened if Peggy Carter had taken the super-soldier serum that gave Steve Rogers his superpowers. Captain Carter will be an essential part of the series, even connecting both seasons. But, that doesn’t mean fans have to forget about Captain America.

In the 40-second What If...? sneak peek released by Marvel, Captain Carter is seen engaged in battle along with Dum Dum Dugan and Bucky Barnes. The three seem to be attacking a Hydra base, when Captain Carter is seen requesting air support and is informed that “Rogers” is coming in. “Steve?!” she exclaims, followed by Bucky also being surprised at hearing his friend’s name. That’s when Steve Rogers shows up in a bulky suit, similar to the classic Iron Man armor, and helps them out.

The clip is the perfect example of how What If...? will show a completely different MCU from the one portrayed in the movies and television series so far. Steve Rogers, who is loved by Marvel fans for being Captain America, is now the Hydra Stomper. Unfortunately, another change that Marvel fans will notice is that the voice doesn't belong to Chris Evans. Another actor has been brought in to voice Steve Rogers in What If…? However, Hayley Atwell has returned to reprise her role as Peggy Carter, along with Sebastian Stan as Bucky and Neal McDonough as Dugan.

The first season of What If...? will include nine episodes, with each focusing on a different tale from the MCU. The series will focus on how things in the MCU would have been different had these incidents been modified in a small way.

The past three Marvel Studios series on Disney Plus all had implications on the MCU’s sacred timeline. It will be interesting to see whether the events of What If…? will impact the MCU in any way, especially since Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2 are believed to involved the multiverse.

What If…? will premiere on Disney Plus on August 11, 2021.
