Another Stephen King novel is headed to the small screen. Blumhouse Television has landed the rights to King's 2021 crime novel Later and will be adapting it into a limited series starring actress Lucy Liu.

King's 2021 bestselling crime novel centers around literary agency owner and single mother Tia, whose son Jaime has a supernatural ability to talk to the dead. Tia finds herself on the brink of financial ruin after one of her author clients dies before finishing his latest work. Using his ability to communicate with the dead, Jamie reiterates the contents of the book to his mother, who sells the book under the author's name to great success. However, after Tia's police detective girlfriend discovers Jamie's unique talent, she decides to use it to hunt a dangerous killer.

Deadline reports the new limited series will be created by Emmy-nominated television writer Raelle Tucker, whose previous work includes HBO's vampire series True Blood as well as Blumhouse Television's anthology series Sacred Lies and Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones. Regarding the new series, Tucker said, “Later is terrifying and touching and wonderfully weird — of course it is, it’s Stephen King. Adapting one of my favorite writers of all time, with an incredible partner like Blumhouse and the incomparable Lucy Liu, is a dream come true.” Tucker is also known for her work on Netflix's Marvel series Jessica Jones and the long-running CW series Supernatural.
