20th Century Studios has confirmed that filming on Hulu’s upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King's 1973 short horror story, The Boogeyman, has officially begun on location in New Orleans. The Boogeyman will be directed by Rob Savage, who also helmed the popular horror movie, Host.

Stars Chris Messina and Sophie Thatcher were the first to be announced as being attached to the project. The 20th Century horror-thriller adaptation “follows a 16-year-old and her younger sister, still reeling from the death of their mother, as they’re targeted by a supernatural boogeyman, after their psychologist father has an encounter with a desperate patient in their house.” The Boogeyman is a production by 21 Laps, who’s future endeavors include the long awaited fourth season of Stranger Things and The Adam Project. The film is being produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levin, and Dan Cohen, along with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who have been signed on as executive producers since 2018. The most recent draft of the script was written by Black Swan's Mark Heyman. Working alongside Heyman on the screenplay are writers Beck and Woods (A Quiet Place), as well as Akela Cooper (Malignant), who wrote the very first drafts for the film.

The actor most recently starred opposite Timothee Chalamet and Oscar Isaac in the Oscar-nominated sci-fi adaptation, Dune. Although both previously mentioned films are a bit more on the lighter side when it comes to tonality, fans have also witnessed Dastmalchian tackle more horror inclined roles. This includes his work in Bird Box, Twin Peaks, and Prisoners. Nonetheless, it will still be an exciting mystery to see what type of role Dastmalchian will eventually be cast as.

King’s short story rendition of The Boogeyman was first published in an issue of Cavalier Magazine.
