SteelSeries is a Danish manufacturer of headsets, keyboards, mice, controllers, and more, and its reputation has only shot up over the past few years. If anything, its SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ wireless headset helps cement that reputation.

Gaming headphones are no doubt an important part of the experience, as it personalizes the sounds and makes players feel more involved than traditional speakers. There are a lot out there, so it's sometimes hard to know what’s best, but it’s practically impossible to go wrong with the SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ wireless headset.

SteelSeries advertises this headset for the PS4 and PS5, but it’s worth noting that it works well with all platforms for all purposes. This includes listening to music, watching movies, or any activity where the user would want to block out the world. Not only do these headphones completely block out background noise, but its signature Arctis soundscape focuses on subtle and critical in-game sounds, ensuring players never miss a footstep in games like Apex Legends.

7p wireless headset

On mobile, PC, PS5, and Switch, the SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ really shines as its audio captures all the little noises. Thankfully, it comes with multiple cables that allow players to use them however they wish, including the charging cable, a 3.5mm audio cable (if wanting or needing to play wired), a USB-C wireless dongle, and a USB-C to USB-A adapter. Obviously, this many cables means this headset has more upkeep to it than many other models, but every cable and dongle is easy to use and swap between, at the very least.

There’s also no audio difference when playing wired or wireless, with one sole exception: Xbox platforms. It’s worth mentioning that the Arctis 7P+ wireless isn’t advertised for Xbox platforms, but it does work when used with its 3.5mm audio cable. The audio quality isn’t bad by any means, but the sharper focus stands out on other platforms, even with the Switch and a wireless dongle.

Speaking of, however, the wireless dongle uses a lossless, lag-free 2.4GHz with an impressive reach of 40 ft. The only downside to this wireless connection comes in the form of other items on this signal; it’s entirely possible to pick up another wireless device in a house, making for some occasional odd interruptions. On the go or far enough way, though, it’s a non-problem, but it’s something to keep in mind when going wireless with the headset.

arctis 7p+ side

Of course, that’s one of its main draws too. Wired headphones always work and are sometimes the most trusted option, but the wireless connection of the SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ headset is just as trustworthy. There was, as promised, no lag or sound loss, and it was quite impressive how far it would really go (in non-realistic ways, too—no one is playing the Switch from 40ft away). This is where the sound controls, mute options, and the like being on the side of the headset are beneficial, even if sometimes these aren’t when in-game.

Thankfully, the battery also goes a long way in supporting its wireless connection, as the Arctis 7P+ series headset boasts a 30-hour battery life and delivers on that promise too. Despite heavy use and attempting to drain the battery, it never became a problem and one overnight charge would go for days of heavy activity. From our experience, it seems this battery is designed not just with long charges but with a long life, as there was no indication it wouldn't last in the long term.

Perhaps the one and biggest downfall to these headphones are their ear cuffs. While the frame, microphone, and more are all well-built, the airweave cushion ear cuffs could be more comfortable. They become uncomfortable really quick, making it all the worse for wear the longer a gaming session goes. Furthermore, unlike the rest of the frame, they don’t have much support outside their loose attachment, making them seem really weak and easily damaged if not cared for properly. It’s uncertain during our time with the headset, but it’s enough to worry that these may need replacing sooner than many alternatives.

That said, overall the SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ headset is a good investment for those with multiple platforms. It’s easy to swap from PlayStation games like Deathloop to Switch games like Pokemon Brilliant Diamond without having to worry about any complications with the headset, and the sound quality delivers all the way around.

The SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ wireless headset is available now for $169.99. Game Rant was provided an Arctis 7P+ wireless headset for the purposes of this review.
