At Nacon Connect, video game developer Spiders revealed its new game Steelrising for PC and next-generation consoles. The game will be the sixth RPG in a row from Spiders, after it released 17th-century action fantasy RPG GreedFall in September 2019.

Today, GreedFall studio Spiders announced new action RPG Steelrising. While details are thin on the ground, the announcement tweet reveals that Steelrising's story will allow players to "join the revolution and rewrite history" as they fight the robot army of King Louis XVI, the 18th-century monarch who was also the last king of France. A release date hasn't been confirmed, but Spiders has said that Steelrising will be available on PC and next-gen consoles, so PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Steelrising could potentially allow the Spiders team to do all of the things it's good at. When it was released last year, GreedFall reviews were largely positive about the way that Spiders had melded 17th-century aesthetics, a colonial-era narrative, and fantasy gameplay. Players were able to use magic to combat the island's powerful beasts all while deciding to side with colonizers or the island's native inhabitants. Spiders will again be matching two very different styles in robot armies and the French revolution, like some sort of revisionist version of Les Miserables, but the developer has shown that it has the skills to do that.

As the game is set in Paris, Spiders, which is headquartered in the French capital, could also do something big here. There's no word on if Steelrising's version of Paris will be as big as in games like Assassin's Creed Unity, but the developer is in a good position to show the city's history.

It's unclear what other features players can expect from Steelrising. Spiders put character classes in GreedFall, with players able to choose from classes like warrior, technical, and magic. These could be expanded upon in Steelrising or the developer could have skills but not tie them to a class, like in Cyberpunk 2077.

Romances are also expected. While Spiders isn't known for romance gameplay the way BioWare is, romance was a feature in GreedFall and the developer's 2016 release, The Technomancer Love interests will probably be featured in Steelrising too but with just a few characters shown in the trailer, fans likely haven't seen all of the options.

Steelrising is in development for PC and next-generation consoles.
