The developer behind GreedFall has been working on an alternate History French Revolution title known as SteelRising that will be a timed PS5 exclusive. Spiders is based in Paris and the studio will explore the streets of the French city in a different light with the next-gen title.

Spiders recently unveiled some new SteelRising gameplay which teases some locations to explore and enemies that players can expect to defeat. SteelRising's gameplay trailer focuses on the main character, Aegis, displaying the high-octane combat which Spiders is focusing the game around as Aegis battles one clockwork robot after another. The environments are eerie and dark and the gameplay shows Aegis fighting in tight alleyways as well as more open areas for boss encounters.

SteelRising will apparently have a flexible leveling system. A wide variety of weapons will also be included in Aegis' arsenal and each will have its own strengths and weaknesses. Aegis' agility will provide players the ability to approach fights vertically, while other tools and abilities will further change things up. The clockwork robots in the SteelRising gameplay trailer, meanwhile, look like they will provide Aegis with a true challenge.

CEO and lead writer at Spiders Jehanne Rousseau recently described Aegis as the "bodyguard to Queen Marie-Antoinette, and the Revolution’s last hope against a king gone mad." Aegis was originally meant to be and was designed as a dancer in the 1789 France of SteelRising. This will make fighting the literal killing machines that are the clockwork robots play like a Souls game. Like any other Souls-like game, players will have to strategize each fight through trial and error as they think fast and strike at the precise moment.

One boss is teased towards the end of the gameplay trailer evidenced by the wide arena Aegis encounters them in. The boss appears to be similar to the clockwork robots that Aegis fights, but it's balancing on a globe with ornate gold. Its back is adorned in a regal candelabra and it moves more elegantly than the other automatons.  This boss hasn't been named by Spiders, but it likely provides one of the earlier challenges in SteelRising.

SteelRising will initially release as a PS5 exclusive but is expected to release for other platforms in the future. The developers behind SteelRising drew inspiration from their previous titles such as The Technomancer and GreedFall to create this brand new IP. Fans of those titles will be familiar with the action and role-playing elements, but SteelRising offers a new experience and a unique take on history.

SteelRising releases exclusively for PS5 in June 2022.
