Steam is offering co-op action title Warhammer: Vermintide 2 as a free-to-own game that can be claimed until November 7. While Steam might not be renowned for adding free games for players to own, unlike the Epic Games Store which gives away a free title or two every week, there have been cases when Valve's digital marketplace has offered some releases to its users without charge. Games like Left 4 Dead 2 and Sniper Elite 2 have been given away in the past, for example. There are also plenty of titles offered by Steam for free as part of its free-to-play category, including incredibly popular multiplayer titles like DOTA 2 and CS:GO. However, Steam is not a platform that often gives away games that users previously had to pay for, and when it does, it also comes with the caveat that gamers have to claim their giveaway before a certain time in order to keep it.RELATED: Steam Makes a Big Change to Its Free GamesThe latest game that Steam is giving its users is Warhammer: Vermintide 2, the sequel to the popular and well received co-op horde action game created by developer Fatshark. Vermintide 2 is available to claim for free until November 7 on the Steam store, where it currently has "Very Positive" rating. So long as players grab the game before November 7, they'll have it in their library forever. Users won't even need to download Vermintide 2 in order to add it to their library, thanks to the recent changes to free games made by Steam.

In terms of its gameplay, Vermintide 2 can be compared somewhat to Left 4 Dead, as each player takes on the role of a unique character battling through hordes of enemies. However, in Warhammer: Vermintide 2, the enemies are not zombies but instead hordes of rat-men known as the Skaven who fight alongside Chaos Warriors of Nurgle. In updates for Warhammer: Vermintide 2, the Beastmen were added as new foes and another game mode was introduced in the Chaos Wastes. The latter update essentially added a roguelike mode to Vermintide 2, giving players access to powerful buffs on their runs through procedurally generated maps.

Where Warhammer: Vermintide 2 shines is in its unique classes, as well as consistent gameplay loop. But, if these features aren't enough on their own, Vermintide 2 also has plenty of mods that change up the gameplay, aesthetic, and more for players. For anyone waiting for Fatshark's next horde-based game Darktide, it may be worth picking up the studio's previous title for free while the offer remains available.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is now available for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
