The top weekly sales data for Steam is almost always an interesting look at what has piqued the interest of gamers around the world. While hot new releases and surprise hits tend to find their way onto the lists regularly, games that have been out for a while also manage to make a resurgence from time to time. It appears that's the case once again, as Player Unknown's Battlegrounds has climbed to the top.

Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad recently shared the top weekly sales data from Steam on Twitter, revealing which games – and hardware – managed to outperform the competition in dollar sales. PUBG might not have been the game many guessed to claim the top spot, but a 50% discount on the game helped it reach the position, landing above other hot titles like Nier Replicant and Valheim. Valheim has been a breakout success, regularly topping the sales list in recent months.

The rest of the list is a bit more in line with what gamers might have expected. The second and third places went to CS:GO and It Takes Two, respectively. CS:GO has been a lasting presence on Steam, being home to a dedicated fan base and a vivid esports scene. It Takes Two, on the other hand, has been one of 2021's surprise hits, performing well both critically and commercially.

The Index VR headset, which is made by Valve, managed to take the fourth spot on the list. Notably, that's because the sales figures are driven by dollar value, not units. The Valve Index VR kit listed on Steam has a price tag of $1,000, which helps it make regular appearances in the top seller list. VR is becoming a more populated space for fresh experiences, but the cost is still prohibitive for many that want beefy units for PC.

The final six slots on the list were taken up by Nier Replicant, Death Stranding, Total War: Rome Remaster, Resident Evil Village pre-orders, Nier Automata, and Valheim respectively. It's not that surprising of a list all things considered, though it is an interesting insight into what gamers have been checking out recently.

The PUBG sale isn't scheduled to end until May 5, so it may manage to take a top spot yet again, though it's tough to say if it will manage to claim the number one place once more. There are a few PUBG games in the works, so it's certainly a good time to start generating interest in the franchise once again.

Player Unknown's Battlegrounds is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
