Since 2016, the Steam Awards have given players the chance to come together to recognize some of their favorite games of the year. This has once again occurred with the 2019 Steam Awards, and the community's votes have now been tallied for categories ranging from Game of the Year to Most Innovative Gameplay. While many of the winners from the 2019 Steam Awards are not extremely surprising, there are some standouts that are sure to catch players' attention.

Coming out on top of the 2019 Steam Awards is From Software's critically-acclaimed Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which fans have awarded with Game of the Year. This challenging action title went up against the likes of the Resident Evil 2 remake and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and while this is some stiff competition, it is not shocking to see Sekiro come out ahead, considering that it also won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019.

With respect to VR Game of the Year, the Steam Award goes to Beat Saber, while A Plague Tale: Innocence has received the accolade for Outstanding Story-Rich Game. Additionally, My Friend Pedro has taken home the award for Most Innovative Gameplay, Gris has received the prize for Outstanding Visual Style, and DayZ has the honor of being a game that is truly Better with Friends.

There are also a couple of Steam Awards categories that are less straightforward, and they may require a bit of explanation. Labor of Love, for example, is a category reserved for games that continue to receive support years after their release, and Grand Theft Auto 5 is the big winner here. Best Games You Suck At looks to recognize those titles that really test a player's skill, and Mortal Kombat 11 is victorious this go around.

While certainly not every fan will ultimately agree with the Steam Awards 2019 nominees and winners, which can be seen in full below, the titles on the list make on thing very clear: 2019 had a myriad of stellar games for players to enjoy. That said, the 2020 video game release calendar is absolutely stacked, and fans may thus expect this new year's Steam Awards to be even more exciting than 2019's.
