It's been a long time coming for Starfield, the upcoming sci-fi RPG from Bethesda. Originally announced at E3 2018, the game has received little in the way of updates, besides the occasional unconfirmed leak. All of that changed today, however, as Bethesda showed off Starfield's first cinematic trailer during the Xbox-Bethesda showcase along with a release date for the forthcoming title.

During the showcase, Bethesda revealed the new Starfield trailer, which lasts just over two minutes. It's the beefiest look that fans have gotten of the game so far, though that shouldn't come as a surprise considering how few details were out in the wild. The trailer is a bit sparse on details, but it does give fans a better idea of what to expect from the finished product. Or, at the very least, an idea of the type of tone that Bethesda is aiming for.

The trailer shows an astronaut going through launch procedures for a ship, as a narrator describes the vastness of space. The players will apparently be a member of "Constellation," which the narrator describes as "our family." Robots are seen walking around the surface of some celestial body, with the game seemingly being set during the early ages of humanity's widespread exploration of space. The trailer then reveals a November 11, 2022, release date, which would mark the 11th anniversary of Skyrim's launch.

The new Starfield trailer shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, as rumors had hinted at it being at E3 a few weeks back. Even Starfield's release date announcement had been alluded to by Jason Schreier, who established that the plan was for the game to launch in 2022, with a specific date coming during the presentation. It now appears that Schreier was indeed correct. The solid date should be a a good thing for fans, though it's worth noting that things could still get shuffled around.

Now that Starfield has been fully revealed, fans should start getting information about it on a more frequent basis. Its silence has been a bit peculiar, but it's clear that Microsoft and Bethesda have faith in the project. Starfield is one of the most anticipated projects that Bethesda has in the works right now, largely because of how long its been since the developer released an original IP.

Starfield is in development and scheduled to release on November 11, 2022.
