The latest official word on Bethesda's upcoming open world sci-fi RPG Starfield is that the game is going to be out within the first six months of 2023, but new rumors suggest that its release date is actually being pushed back yet again. Bethesda first announced Starfield all the way back at E3 2018, and so fans have been waiting quite a long time to get their hands on the game for themselves.

The first Starfield release date Bethesda announced pegged the game for a November 11, 2022 launch. With Bethesda announcing that particular Starfield release date well in advance, many assumed that the company would be able to meet its deadlines and get the game out on time. Unfortunately for fans looking forward to the game, the tough decision was made to delay Starfield to 2023. Starfield is still without an official release date at the time of this writing, but it's supposedly dropping in the first half of 2023.

However, insider MrMattyPlays has claimed that the Starfield release date might be getting pushed back. Speaking on the latest episode of the Defining Duke podcast, MrMattyPlays claimed that it's "possible" Starfield is going to be delayed out of the first half of 2023. Luckily, MrMattyPlays still expects the Starfield release date to be in the summer of 2023, so that would potentially mean the game would launch in either July, August, or early September. MrMattyPlays did not divulge the source of this information but stressed that it was something that they "trust quite a bit." In fact, MrMattyPlays said that nothing that source has told him has been proven wrong so far.

If Starfield is pushed out of the first half of 2023, it will definitely disappoint fans who have been waiting years to play the game. However, others may have seen this potential Starfield release date delay coming. After all, it was previously said that Starfield would launch after Redfall, and recent reports from reputable insiders have suggested that Redfall's release date has been delayed behind the scenes as well. The latest reports say that the Redfall release date is May 2, which would potentially push Starfield into an especially busy June, so perhaps that's why the game is supposedly getting delayed out of the first half of 2023.

With no official Starfield release date announced, fans should take this information with a grain of salt. It should also be stressed that the recent changes to Starfield's release date on Steam are not evidence in favor of the release date delay being accurate. Starfield's Steam release date change is simply a result of Valve changing how it displays release dates on its platform.

Starfield is in development for PC and Xbox Series X.
