Starfield players won’t be locked into traits they chose while creating their character. The game is expected to come out in the first half of 2023, although it was originally scheduled to launch this year on November 11. Bethesda announced Starfield’s delay in May 2022, while confirming that Redfall's launch will also be postponed.

Shortly afterward, Bethesda revealed some of the first footage of Starfield during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase in June 2022. During this event, director Todd Howard went over its gameplay features in an extensive presentation. It also included other elements, such as the outpost building feature that returns from Fallout 4 and the character creator.

Now, Bethesda has confirmed that players can remove traits they dislike instead of making a new character. In a recent video, Todd Howard shared some details on Starfield’s dialogue system, and other footage from the game was also shared. Players can see an in-game menu at around 3:01 that shows some character traits, and it looks like users can select up to three at the beginning of Starfield. Todd Howard stated that players will not be locked into their choices, as Bethesda added in-game activities or quests that will allow gamers to remove traits if they wish. Some players may dislike aspects of their character after playing the game for a bit, and this feature lets them simply remove character traits instead of starting a new playthrough.

Selecting a trait also prevents them from choosing conflicting traits, such as not being an introvert and an extrovert at the same time. The video highlights a few interesting options in this small clip, such as the Hero Worshipped trait, which makes it look like the Adoring Fan from The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion may be making a return in Starfield. In Oblivion, the Adoring Fan becomes the player’s follower after they achieve the rank of Grand Champion in the game’s battle arena.

Gamers can find bits of interesting information and other details in the same video. Todd Howard revealed that Starfield will return to a classic Bethesda-style conversation system and will feature over 250,000 lines of dialogue. By comparison, Skyrim had 60,000 lines of dialogue and Fallout 4 featured 111,000.

Starfield is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2023, and it marks Bethesda’s first major single-player release since 2015’s Fallout 4. it seems like some players have figured out creative ways of passing the time until the game's release, as one fan is determined to kill two Skyrim characters every day until Starfield comes out.
