Table of contents

Stardew Valley has a history of having a ton of content added to it over the course of its lifespan. One of the last major updates the life simulator got was in December 2020, known as the 1.5 Update. In it, a new area of the world was added called Ginger Island.

After repairing the boat at Willy's Fish Shop, players can go out to the Fern Islands archipelago and visit this island for a whole new batch of items to harvest or purchase. Among the exclusive items on the island is the Qi Gems, a currency that can come in handy when looking for items. There are three ways to collect these gems.

3 Qi's Walnut Room

This is where Qi Gems are at their most valuable. On the west side of Ginger Island, this room becomes available to the player once they have successfully collected 100 Golden Walnuts. Among the few things in here is a shop where players can spend their gems on new items and the Special Orders Board that gives players tasks to complete to get Qi Gems.

Each Monday, there will be two new quests that are eligible to be taken. If a player takes them on, they will only have a certain amount of in-game days to complete it. Here is the full list of possible tasks, plus the amount of gems that could be rewarded:

  • Danger In The Deep (7 days, 50 Qi Gems)
  • Extended Family (3 days, 20 Qi Gems)
  • Four Precious Stones (28 days, 40 Qi Gems)
  • Let's Play A Game (7 days, 10 Qi Gems)
  • Qi's Crop (28 days, 100 Qi Gems)
  • Qi's Cuisine (14 days, 25 Qi Gems)
  • Qi's Hungry Challenge (7 days, 25 Qi Gems)
  • Qi's Kindness (7 days, 40 Qi Gems)
  • Qi's Prismatic Grange (14 days, 35 Qi Gems)
  • Skull Cavern Invasion (7 days, 40 Qi Gems)

2 Golden Walnuts

Because Ginger Island is a new location away from the main Stardew Valley world, this means there is a new form of currency to keep track of. Golden Walnuts are located all around the island and their purpose is to be exchanged with parrots for various goods. There is a total of 130 Golden Walnuts hidden throughout the island.

Things that can be purchased from the parrots include access to new areas of Ginger Island, building bridges and new places to shop for goods and different means of teleporting around and away from the island. After purchasing everything that the parrots offer, the rest of the walnuts can be used to purchase up to 28 Qi Gems.

1 Shrine Of Challenge

Shrine of Challenge in Stardew Valley

After completing the "Danger In The Deep" quest, players can visit the 120th floor of the Mines to try their hand at the Shrine of Challenge. This is an area that will have fierce monsters that the player can choose to defeat. Killing these monsters can actually lead to the monsters dropping gems.

Another circumstance similar to this is during the "Skull Cavern Invasion" questline. Defeating monsters during this area of the game will also lead to gems being dropped.

Stardew Valley is currently available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and Mobile.
