Without a doubt, Stardew Valley is one of the most successful indie titles of all-time, and its success story is even more impressive knowing that a single person made the entire game. Ever since its release back in 2016, Stardew Valley received multiple nominations from various award-giving bodies and shattered sales records. Now, it appears that the game has achieved another impressive milestone, shortly after the release of Stardew Valley's massive update 1.5.

According to SteamDB, Stardew Valley just reached a new concurrent player record on Steam of 89,807 players on December 27th. It is worth remembering that this date is just a few days after developer ConcernedApe released the latest content expansion, which shows that many people returned to Stardew Valley after all the major additions introduced by the update. The game's previous record was 64,427, which was reached shortly after Stardew Valley was released in 2016.

For players unfamiliar with Stardew Valley's latest update 1.5, the content expansion brought new features and much-needed quality-of-life updates to the farming simulator. First, players are given a new farm layout called the Beach Farm, which offers tons of good fishing and foraging opportunities. As a bonus, supply crates will wash up on shore from time to time, giving players a chance to snag some rare items in the game. One drawback of the Beach Farm that players should be aware of is that sprinklers do not work in this layout, given that its sandy soil clogs sprinkler systems.

Additionally, the latest content expansion for Stardew Valley also brought a new Advanced Gaming Options Mode, which allows players to select a wide variety of choices to customize their playthrough. In Stardew Valley's 1.5 update patch notes, ConcernedApe recommends that veteran players try out the remixed mode, which randomizes Community Center bundles by mixing new ones alongside variations of the originals. Players can also randomize mine rewards using the Advanced Gaming Options, allowing them to receive new items to acquire in chests found all over the mines.

Lastly, one of the biggest features of update 1.5 is the local split-screen co-op, which allows up to three players to enjoy the game. Given all the new features and major improvements introduced in Stardew Valley, it is unsurprising that the game just achieved another player count record on the PC. At the moment, the latest update is only available for the PC version of the game. Still, ConcernedApe promises players on consoles that the update could be ready by the end of January.

Stardew Valley is available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One.
