Now that ostriches have been added to Stardew Valley with the Version 1.5 update, players can raise them on their farms. But to do so, certain steps need to be taken as players will need to find an ostrich egg and ostrich incubator first.

The long-awaited Version 1.5 update to Stardew Valley was released just before Christmas for PC players and introduced a ton of late-game content. One of the main additions from ConcernedApe was Ginger Island, a remote island off Pelican Town's coast that has several new enemies, NPCs, and a new dungeon called the Volcano Dungeon. Along with every other new feature, Stardew Valley now allows players to raise ostriches on their farms, but first, they'll have to find an egg on Ginger Island.

Where to Find An Ostrich Egg

This means that players will first need to unlock Ginger Island by doing a series of tasks. After doing this as well as solving the introductory puzzles of Ginger Island, players will be able to roam free. One way to get ostrich eggs is by looting them from chests in the Volcano Dungeon. However, this can only happen at random and there's only a small chance of this happening.

But the guaranteed way of obtaining an ostrich egg is by solving Journal Scrap 10. The Journal Scraps around Ginger Island operate similarly to Secret Notes from Stardew Valley's Version 1.3 update awhile back. Journal Scrap 10 is a treasure map that takes the player to the north side of the island, right outside of the Volcano Dungeon. Hoe around the j-shaped tree to dig up an ostrich egg. But it can't be incubated like normal eggs. It requires an ostrich incubator.

How to Get Ostrich Incubator

The crafting recipe for the ostrich incubator can only be obtained from the new NPC Professor Snail. To rescue him, players will need to find him hiding behind a rock near his tent; it's hard to miss as speech bubbles will come out from behind the rock. After blowing it up with a bomb, he'll ask the player to help with completing the museum. This includes completing a number of surveys, such as counting the number of purple starfish around the island and collecting several fossils.

After completing Professor Snail's museum in Stardew Valley, he'll give the player the ostrich incubator crafting recipe. To craft it, it requires 50 bone fragments, 50 hardwood, and 20 cindershards, and needs to be placed in the barn, rather than the coop.

Stardew Valley is available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
