Krobus is officially referred to as a "shadow person" in the Stardew Valley community, but he's actually the only monster that isn't hostile toward the player. Whatever he might be, he lives in the sewers of Pelican Town. Players can find him down there and purchase a variety of items after obtaining the Rusty Key, which is given by Gunther after donating 60 items to the Museum.

But while it might seem like Krobus is just some strange merchant that players can purchase the highly valuable Stardrops from, there's actually far more to the void monster than most players likely know. In fact, many have opted to move Krobus into their homes over having a traditional Stardew Valley marriage—or even after getting divorced.

A 'Relationship' With Krobus

Stardew Valley Krobus Smell

Unfortunately, building a friendship with Krobus doesn't come with the same kind of content as a regular romance in Stardew Valley would. However, players can still get two different heart events with him: one at three hearts where he sends a crafting recipe in the mail and a short, sweet scene at fourteen hearts.

Much like proposing to a romantic partner in Stardew Valley, players can ask Krobus to move in with them by giving him the Void Ghost Pendant. Like any normal marriage, Krobus will occupy and decorate a room in the house. However, he cannot do this if the player is already married and a romantic partner cannot move in with the player if Krobus is already living there. It's basically like the player is in a monogamous marriage with Krobus. But they can only hug, unfortunately.

Krobus' Interesting Personality

Stardew Valley Krobus

Stardew Valley's bachelors and bachelorettes are often thought of as two-dimensional archetypes, though some of them have deeper stories to be uncovered, like Shane and his depression or Sebastian possibly harboring social anxiety. But Krobus might be the most interesting of them all. Because of his monstrous nature, he has the most intriguing dialogue. Players will pick up on lore, such as how his people came into this plane of existence and the ongoing dangerous feud between his kind and the dwarves. And, apparently, he tastes like licorice.

One of the most fascinating things about the void ghost is what happens if players have gotten a divorce in Stardew Valley but have children and decide to move Krobus in. Krobus will help take care of the kids as any spouse would. Unlike regular married partners, he won't tend to the farm because he's too sensitive to the sunlight. He'll also still give gifts to the player on some days, but he won't make them food, seemingly because what Krobus eats isn't edible to humans. And luckily, players can still purchase items from Krobus' stock in the sewer; he'll be replaced by a chest that contains his inventory.

Unfortunately, Krobus is the worst movie date. He dislikes every film except for Mysterium. And players must keep their "roommate" relationship a secret from the other villagers, Krobus will say after giving him the Void Ghost Pendant. But if players actually want to romance Krobus for real, there are many Stardew Valley mods that can make that wish a reality.

Stardew Valley is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
