In many ways, Stardew Valley encapsulated all the best elements of classic farming sims, from its relaxed gameplay to its memorable characters. Without a doubt, one of the most popular features of Stardew Valley is its romance mechanic. However, unlike older farming sims, Stardew Valley offers the ability for players to marry any eligible character regardless of gender, making it one of the games that helped pave the way for inclusion in the video game industry.
In Stardew Valley, players are presented with numerous bachelors and bachelorettes to pursue, each having unique traits and personalities. However, it is no secret that among the bachelors in Stardew Valley, Sebastian is one of the most popular ones, thanks to his endearing personality and great character arc.
Sebastian's Personality and Traits
Another thing that separates Stardew Valley from most farming sims is that the game actually allows players to divorce their spouse and pursue a new relationship with a different character. However, separating from one's spouse is still not an easy route to take, which is why players should be sure of the character they wish to spend the rest of their in-game lives with.
For the uninitiated, Sebastian lives with his mother, Robin, stepfather, Demetrius, and his half-sister Maru. Most of the time, players can find Sebastian in his room, located in the basement of Robin's carpenter shop. At first glance, it is easy to categorize Sebastian as one of Pelican Town's "bad boys," thanks to his smoking habit and moody personality. However, once players get to know him, Sebastian has some pretty interesting hobbies such as playing tabletop RPGs with friends, video games or working on his motorcycle. As far as his schedule goes, Sebastian usually stays at home or the Stardrop Saloon.
Sebastian's Likes and Dislikes
Just like any other marriage candidate in the game, the way to Sebastian's heart is by gifting him items and resources that he loves. Luckily for players, Sebastian's Loves are easy to get, and players only have to make it to the frozen areas of the mines, as he loves receiving Frozen Tears. However, for those who do not have time to venture deep into the mines, Sebastian also loves receiving Sashimi, which gamers can easily purchase at the Stardrop Saloon when it's in stock. Other items Sebastian loves include Pumpkin Soup, Obsidian, and Void Egg.
However, players wanting to marry Sebastian should also be aware of gifts that he hates, and usually, these are artisan goods, except for Green Tea, Oil, and Coffee. Sebastian also hates to receive Eggs, Omelette, Complete Breakfast, and Clay, so players should steer clear of those items when pursuing Sebastian as a romantic partner.
Sebastian's Heart Events
While Sebastian mostly spends his time indoors, most of his heart events occur in several areas of the map, with one even set outside Pelican Town. One thing that makes romancing Sebastian easier than the rest is that players won't need to make choices during the dialog that could affect their friendship with Sebastian. In the early stages of Sebastian's ten heart events, players will get to know him better, his work, and his love for motorcycles, and there's even a board game scenario with Sam.
However, as players get into a deeper relationship with Sebastian, he will slowly open up to them about his fears and how he feels like a fish out of water in Pelican Town. He will also open up to the player about his social anxiety issues, fleshing out Sebastion's personality even more. Once players reach ten heart events, Sebastian will take the player on a motorcycle ride until they reach outside Zuzu City. There, Sebastian will confess his feelings to the player.
