Stardew Valley is a great simulation game with a ton of depth to offer players. For instance, there's a whole range of interesting characters to romance and marry, and, in some cases divorce. There could be a few reasons why players might want a divorce their spouses.

Maybe they're sick of Shane switching the wallpaper to the Joja logo, or maybe they're tired of receiving Bat Wings as a romantic gift from Sebastian. Thankfully, regardless of their motivation, there's an easy way for players to get rid of their current Stardew Valley spouse.

2 How To Get Divorced

Getting divorced in Stardew Valley is a pretty simple process. All players need to do is head to Mayor Lewis's manor, which is located just to the left of the bridge that connects the main part of Pelican Town to the Museum. Once inside Mayor Lewis's manor, they should head towards the left side of his house, right beside his kitchen.

There, they'll find two books. If they choose the book on the right, an options box will pop up to ask if the player wants to get divorced. Getting a divorce costs the player a whopping 50,000g, meaning it's certainly not a cheap option, even in the later game. Luckily, even if the player chooses to go for a divorce, they can go back and cancel it, but only within the same day and only until 10 PM. If the player waits too long, they won't be able to reverse their choice.

1 What Happens After Getting A Divorce?

The day after the player asks for a divorce, their ex-spouse will be gone, alongside the room they added on the right side of the Farmhouse and the small space they take up behind the Farmhouse. Any children the player may have had with their former partner will stay at the Farmhouse, though.

Divorcing spouses has further consequences than just costing a ton of gold. The spouse that has been divorced will remember this, and they will treat the player differently. '(Ex)' will be added to their name during conversations, and fulfilling 'Help Wanted' quests for them will not grant any friendship points.

Outside 'Help Wanted' quests, they will also refuse any gifts that the player attempts to give them. They'll treat the player coldly, Festival dialogue will change, and if the player remarries another inhabitant of Stardew Valley, they will not attend the wedding.

However, there is a way around this. If players have access to the Witch's Hut, they'll be able to find a shrine there that is capable of wiping all ex-spouses' memories, making them forget their previous relationship with the player and - most importantly - making them romanceable once again. Players can use this shrine multiple times, and it will cost the player 30,000g each time - a little less expensive than a divorce, but still a hefty price.

Overall, divorce in Stardew Valley is definitely something that should be considered carefully. If players are certain, though, they'll just need to be sure to save up enough money. Just as in the real world, divorce in Stardew Valley can be incredibly costly.

Stardew Valley is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and many other devices.
