Of course, while the concept of Stardew Valley is nothing new, developer ConcernedApe was able to capture the best elements of classic farming simulator games such as Harvest Moon while introducing new features and gameplay mechanics to keep the experience fresh for all players.
This year, Stardew Valley celebrated its fifth anniversary, and while the game continues to receive updates and content expansions, fans are understandably wondering what's next for ConcernedApe. Luckily for fans waiting on an update, Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone teased that he is now working on a new project, and here's everything that is known about it so far.
What ConcernedApe Is Working On After Stardew Valley
In reply to a fan question on Twitter, Barone revealed that he is working on some "new stuff." Unfortunately, the developer did not provide details on what this new project might entail or when it is coming. Given this, the "new stuff" Barone is teasing could be another huge content update for Stardew Valley, a sequel to the popular farming simulator game, or a new unrelated title altogether.
While the new project Barone is working on is still a mystery, it is worth remembering that he already teased "a couple of new projects" last year. According to the tweet, Barone revealed that one of the projects "takes place in the world of Stardew Valley but is not a farming game." He went on to say that "the other, I'm not 100% sure about the world yet, but it will tie into Stardew Valley in some way." At the moment, it remains unclear whether Barone's latest response on Twitter still refers to these two new Stardew Valley-related projects that he teased last year. As to when fans should expect to hear more of this new project, Barone said on his post that he might share more in the "somewhat near future."
Additionally, another fan sent a tweet to Barone saying that they are "waiting to go to Hogwarts," to which the developer responded that while he is a fan of the Harry Potter books, neither of the new games he is working on "have anything to do with a magic school." For those who are a bit confused about what this whole exchange is all about, it is worth knowing that Chucklefish Games, who co-published Stardew Valey alongside ConcernedApe, is working on a Stardew Valley-inspired magic school simulator called Witchbrook. While Barone didn't explain his response, it is likely a reminder that he is not involved in the development of Witchbrook.
Why Fans Should Be Excited About ConcernedApe's Next Game
While details about the new project ConcernedApe is working on are still being kept under wraps, fans of Stardew Valley should be excited that a new project is being worked on at all. As previously mentioned, 2021 marked Stardew Valley's fifth anniversary, and it's about time for fans of ConcernedApe to see something new from the developer. Additionally, while it remains unclear whether this new project is a content expansion, a sequel, or a new game, fans should still be hyped given that it will likely still embody the high-quality content that ConcernedApe is known for.
Although Stardew Valley is the only game that ConcernedApe has published so far, it is no secret that the skills he has acquired since making the game contributed to its worldwide success. As such, it is hard not to imagine what he could do now with everything he has learned from the development of Stardew Valley. Given that ConcernedApe is still not speaking about what this new project could entail, it could be anything at this point. The new project may be a platformer game with an emotional story or even a full-blown RPG that fleshes out the story of one of Stardew Valley's main characters. Whatever it ends up being, fans should rest easy that it will embody ConcernedApe's development style and personal touch as a one-person development team.
