Fishing can be super challenging but really rewarding. But only if you know what fish are best to catch and how to get hold of them.

One of the main reasons that Stardew Valley is so wonderful is the number of things the player can do within the peaceful little farming game. A favorite among players is fishing. This isn't only because it's a challenge but also due to its year-round adventure that brings you to every corner of Stardew Valley and below. That and the huge money you can make from some of these difficult fish.

There are so many fish that it really becomes a challenge to catch them all, especially the legendaries. However, some of these fish are worth up to 2000g and can really be a great source of income as well as a wonderful source of entertainment, provided you know where they are and how to catch them.

10 Catfish

The catfish is one of the best-earning fish in the game. It's got a standard price of 200g and can go up to 300g if it's a gold standard fish! What's even better is how easy it is to find one too! It may not be the easiest fish to catch, depending on the rod the player has but the catfish is just as abundant as turnips in the spring.

The catfish can be found in rivers, ponds, or swamps and is only available to catch during the spring and fall seasons. Luckily it is around at any time of the day, although it does need to be raining which is perfect for the solo players who use up all their energy tending to the farm and the animals!

9 Super Cucumber

When a Sea Cucumber just isn't good enough, the super cucumber certainly is. And with the price difference, every fisher is looking for one of these! The standard Sea Cucumber will make the player around 75g, whereas the Super Cucumber is worth a whopping 250g at its standard price!

The price difference doesn't come without its downsides though. The Super cucumber can only be caught in the ocean during the summer or the fall. While it doesn't matter if it's raining or not, the timings are really important, as well as a bit annoying. The player can only catch this from 6 pm - 2 am, making it a bit of a rush to get home before you pass out! Nevertheless, it does mean the player can get their daily chores done before a night of fishing.

8 Ice Pip

This Ice Pip can be pretty challenging to get hold of at the beginning. It's only found in the mine at floor level 60 and the player must have level 5 fishing to even have a chance, even then it's a really difficult fish to catch. Luckily the seasons and timings don't matter so any good fisher and miner can just fish until they catch it!

It may seem difficult but this fish is absolutely worth it if the player is looking to get a bit more gold under their belt. The Ice Pip is worth a whopping 500g as a standard fish and around 750g when it's gold! Definitely worth the struggle.

7 Spook Fish

Sometimes the best fish aren't the ones that are worth the most, but the ones that are the coolest and hardest to catch or find. The Spook Fish is available when the player goes on the submarine ride at the Night Market during the winter from day 15 to 17, making it a pretty long wait if the fish is missed.

That being said, the Spook Fish can be found by using Magic-Bait in the south-western corner of the beach from the left-most pier while the player is fishing to the west. It's a little complicated but that's what makes it such a cool fish.

6 Lava Eel

The Lava Eel is rather predictable when the player is wondering where they can find it. However, that doesn't make it any easier to get hold of especially when it's in level 100 of the mine! Due to the Lava Eel being so far down in the mine, the player needs to do a bit of grinding in that field which takes a long time, but they also need to get level 7 in their fishing!

It's worth 700g at a standard price so is undeniably worth it but that doesn't stray from the fact that getting hold of this rare fish takes so long!

5 Angler

Angler location

It would be wrong to not include the legendary fish. Not only are they super hard to get hold of but they're worth so much money! The Angler itself is worth a huge 900g at standard, and if the player is lucky enough to get hold of a gold Angler then it's worth an amazing 1350g!

What's nice is that this fish is available during the Fall at any time and weather. As for the location, the player can find this fish by the Wooden Plank Bridge at the Northern Lake by the JojaMart. Best of luck!

4 Mutant Carp

This legendary Mutant Carp can only be found in the sewer, meaning the player will need to be pretty deep into the game before this becomes available. However, since it doesn't matter about the season, time, or weather, this fisher can find the time they have spare and fish for this rare but valuable Carp.

Worth a nice 1000g at standard and 1500 at gold, the Mutant Carp is well worth searching for, no matter how far down the line it may be.

3 Glacierfish

It really makes sense to only find the Glacierfish in the Winter but luckily it can be found at any time and weather. As for the location, fishers can catch the Glacierfish just south of Arrowhead Island in the forest. It's usually found in quite deep water so lookout for the perfect spot.

Similar to the Mutant Carp, getting to Arrowhead Island is an endeavor that comes a little later in the game, but the fact that this fish is worth 1000g does make it pretty worth it in the long run.

2 Crimsonfish

The Crimsonfish is one of the more expensive fish in the game, coming in at 1500g as standard and 2250g when it's a gold rating. However, that only shows how hard it is to catch.

Not only is it a tricky little fish, but it can only be found at the Deep Pier from the beach. That pier can be found if the player heads out onto the boardwalk to the east. It can only be found in the summer but the time and weather don't matter, only the players' fishing skills.

1 Legend

Fisher catching legend

Living by its name, the Legend is renowned for being extremely hard to catch. It flies around at ridiculous speed and can only be found during Spring when it rains.

Despite that, the Legend fish is worth a jaw-dropping 5000g at standard and 7500g as a gold star fish, making all that effort worth it. It's also a pretty good fish to show off. As for where you can find the Legend, it's seen in the Mountain Lake if the player casts their line near the floating log there. This one's tough so good luck!
