Updated July 2nd, 2023, by Nikole Stewart: Stardew Valley still is one of the most popular indie games. While there have been many games that have tried to imitate what Stardew Valley gives players, none have come close to the real thing. From exploring the map, to simple and cute art, and dynamic and interesting characters, there is always something that needs to be done. That is the same for farming.

While farming in reality is an exhausting chore, players can't seem to get enough of growing crops and trying to get as much of their farm space as possible. That's why it's always important to update the best crops for players. While there is not much to add, the layout will change to help players find information efficiently, as well as add crops that are available in the Expanded version at the very bottom to avoid players potentially spoiling for themselves.

The Best Crop For All Seasons: Berries

A good rule of thumb to keep in mind when growing crops in Stardew Valley is that berries should be growing during every season. Blueberries and cranberries typically yield more than one berry per plant, so it's more bang for the buck. Each of them regrows after just a few days, which can lead to a steady income if players utilize as much land as possible to plant them. In the winter, using the greenhouse to grow berries is a tactic many veteran players use to maximize profit.

During the fall season in Stardew Valley, Cranberries should be planted and will take a total of 7 days to grow, but each plant guarantees to yield 2 berries at harvest, with a chance to pull more berries. Cranberry plants regrow after just 5 days, which is excellent turnaround. Regular cranberries sell for 75 gold each, but iridium quality cranberries sell for 150 gold. Make sure to put some fertilizer down to increase profits from this Stardew Valley crop.

Best Fall Crop: Pumpkins

Best fall seeds and plants in Stardew Valley

The second-best crop to grow during the fall season are pumpkins. Pumpkins are extremely profitable, selling for 320 gold each at normal quality and 640 at iridium quality. However, they take quite some time to grow. Pumpkins take a full 13 days to ripen without Speed-Gro, meaning players will only be able to sell 2 rounds of pumpkins during the fall season.

Still, they're very valuable in other ways as well. While they aren't edible, pumpkins are used in a number of recipes and Bundles at the Community Center. Additionally, pumpkins are loved by Abigail, Krobus, and Willy.

Pumpkins have a chance to become a giant crop in Stardew Valley as well. By planting pumpkins in 3x3 grids, there's a small chance each day that the crop can become giant. Giant crops can be harvested with an axe and yield around 15 to 21 units of the crop.

Most Valuable Fall Crop: Sweet Gem Berry

Sweet Gem Berries growing in a shed

The sweet gem berry grows during fall and is technically the most profitable crop in Stardew Valley. It grows from rare seeds purchased from the Traveling Cart, usually costing between 600-1,000g. After a player reaches level 9 of farming, they will acquire a seed maker, which produces a rare seed when a sweet gem berry is put in. Typically, only one seed is acquired at a time and sweet gem berries take a full 24 days to grow. Still, it sells for a minimum of 3,000 gold and a maximum of 6,000 gold, depending on quality.

Even though it is a high-valued item, when given to any NPC, they will look at it as a neutral gift. There is also a secret that is tagged onto this item. Spoilers are ahead for players who want to find secrets naturally in the game! When players unlock the secret woods, players can give Old Master Cannoli a sweet gem berry, and receive a starfruit in return.

Fall Crops To Avoid: Sunflowers

Out of all the crops provided for players, the least profitable and least valuable are the sunflowers. If players are working on the Community Center, note that growing at least one sunflower is needed to complete the Dye Bundle on the Bulleton Board section.

However, other than that, it costs 200g to purchase the seeds, but only 80g when selling them. And their growth time is 8 days, which is not worth it for players to waste farmland space just to lose money.

As arguably one of the best crops aside from the Sweet Gem Berries, the Cranberries offer players a decent amount of money in a fast time span. These crops can be used in the Sewing machine to create dyeable farmer pants or red dye for pots, but aside from that, Cranberries are simply great profit.
