Stardew Valley is a charming little farming sim — but it does have its combat elements. In caves like the Mines, Skull Cavern, and the Volcano Dungeon, dangerous monsters lurk, and players who travel there must be prepared to protect themselves. That's where the game's weapons come in.

There are four different types of weapons in Stardew Valley, each with their own unique attributes. Players may find these weapons in treasure chests during their spelunking expeditions, or they may purchase them from the Adventurer's Guild. Each type suits a different play style, so players are encouraged to try each one and determine what suits them best.

Swords

This is likely the first weapon type that players will encounter in Stardew Valley. Upon entering the mines for the first time, Marlon of the Adventerer's Guild will present the player with a Rusty Sword for self-defense as they dig for treasure. It is also the most common weapon type in the game, with 24 different options. These weapons tend to have a fairly fast swing and a decent range, making them a well-balanced choice.

All melee weapons in Stardew Valley have a secondary attack, which can be executed with a double click. A sword's secondary attack puts the player into a defensive stance, dealing damage to enemies and negating damage to the player. This stance will also knock back flying enemies like bats and serpents.

Dagger

Daggers have the disadvantage of quite a short range; thus, players have to get up-close-and-personal with monsters to damage them with a dagger. Rather than swinging like a sword or a club, the attack animation for a dagger shows the weapon thrusting forward, targeting only the square in front of the player. Despite their limited range, however, daggers are the fastest-moving weapons in the game, making them a good choice for players with quick reflexes.

When using their special attack, the player will stab with their dagger several times in quick succession. This makes daggers useful when fighting highly mobile monsters, as the player can deal a large amount of damage quickly.

Club

Clubs tend to be slower-moving than most other weapon types. However, they make up for this with their high damage and large melee range, as well as their ability to knock enemies back quite far. They work well for players who can time their strikes skillfully.

When using their secondary attack, the player will use the club to slam into the ground in front of them. This causes an area of effect attack to take place, dealing damage in a radius around the player and inflicting strong knockback on affected enemies. Alternatively, if the player right-clicks immediately after left-clicking, they will deal several attacks in quick succession.

Slingshots

Slingshots are the least common weapon in Stardew Valley, with only two types available in the game. They're also the most complex to use. While melee weapons simply involve clicking a button to hit the enemy, slingshots require players to hold, aim, and fire. Unlike melee weapons, slingshots do not have a secondary attack.

To use a slingshot, the player must first load them with ammunition. The type of ammo determines how much damage a slingshot will do. Players can use fruits and vegetables (though these do very little damage), Explosive Ammo, or various kinds of ore. The highest-damage ammo is Iridium Ore, dealing 25-101 damage with the Slingshot and 50-202 with the Master Slingshot.
