The Ahsoka series will premiere on Disney Plus in the late summer of 2023, and one Star Wars fan has compiled a list of books and shows to watch to understand the character's journey to this point.

Lucasfilm Executive Producer and Executive Creative Director Dave Filoni said fans don't need to watch the previous Star Wars shows to enjoy Ahsoka. Some fans who haven't dived into every Star Wars project may be relieved by Filoni's words because Ahsoka Tano has a rich history in the Star Wars franchise dating to her first appearance in the animated Clone Wars film.

Still, the experience of watching the Ahsoka series will likely be enriched by understanding the character's past, especially considering the show will continue story elements from Star Wars Rebels. Fortunately, Reddit User I_AmNoJedi has compiled a list of shows and books to read to be caught up with Ahsoka Tano's story. Of course, because Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels ran for multiple seasons, the Reddit user focused on the essential episodes, listing each chronologically and noting the most important ones. Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi and author E. K. Johnston's young-adult novel, Ahsoka, were also listed.

Lars Mikkelsen will reprise his role as Thrawn in Ahsoka, and fans who only watch the movies and live-action TV shows might not be familiar with the villainous character. To help those fans, the Reddit user advised fans to read the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn, including the novels Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command. While these novels were relegated to the non-canon Star Wars Legends category after Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the Reddit user notes that elements from these novels may be incorporated into the Ahsoka series.

I_AmNoJedi's theory about the Thrawn trilogy is not unfounded, as the new Ahsoka trailer features a moment when the titular Jedi refers to Thrawn as "Heir to the Empire." The Mandalorian season 3 episode 7 emphasized this with a scene in which Imperial loyalists discuss Thrawn's impending return.

Of course, Ahsoka may be only one part of a larger puzzle. A Mandalorian climax movie that acts as the culmination of the Star Wars TV shows was announced at the 2023 Celebration event. Some fans believe the Disney Plus shows are building toward a final confrontation with Thrawn and the remnants of the Empire. Time will tell, but I_AmNoJedii's list may be helpful to fans who want to know everything before the big movie event.

Ashoka is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus in August 2023.
