Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy's Edge is getting an enhanced edition and is heading to the PS VR2 when it launches in 2023, as a new trailer at the PlayStation State of Play showcased the title and gameplay. A remake of the 2020 VR game, Tales From the Galaxy's Edge is an immersive Star Wars experience where players play as a droid repair technician who is pulled into a grand adventure in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy's Edge Enhanced Edition will give players a few different stories to experience, including being invited to join the Jedi Order or playing as the assassin droid IG-88 while pursuing a bounty. When they're not engaged in one of the story adventures, players will be able to explore the Black Spire Outpost at Galaxy's Edge and encounter characters like C-3PO, R2-D2, Jedi Master Yoda, and Hondo Ohnaka. Lucasfilm's ILMxLAB has invested a lot into embracing the newest technology that the PS VR2 offers for Galaxy's Edge, and it is just scratching the surface of Star Wars' VR potential with Tales From the Galaxy's Edge.

Epic Star Wars VR Battles

There are no climactic battles between the Jedi and Sith in Tales From the Tales From the Galaxy's Edge Enhanced Edition, but there is a lot of potential there for future with the new technology that the PS VR2 offers. Much like the PlayStation 5's Dual Sense controller, the PS VR2's controllers will have haptic feedback and reactive triggers and the PS VR 2 headset will use eye-tracking and controller tracking technology, making gameplay more responsive and immersive than it has been before. Technical features aside, the fast-paced, intense combat of lightsaber battles needs VR technology capable of making it fluid to capture the emotion and stakes of the conflict. The PS VR 2 has the potential to make that a reality.

Seamlessly parrying the attacks of a Sith Lord and using the force to easily grab objects to push at them is something that would be an entirely different experience in VR than it would be using a standard controller. Given the attachment many fans have to Star Wars over its 45-year legacy of films, books, games, and TV shows, the immersion VR brings to a gaming experience can capture the emotion of Star Wars in a way nothing else in gaming can. The desperation, pain, and heartbreak of a clash like Obi Wan and Vader's battle in Episode 6 of Obi-Wan Kenobi could make for an epic experience for gamers if Star Wars chose to invest in VR more.

PlayStation and Star Wars fans shouldn't discount the 3D audio being built into the PS VR2 headset either, as both audio effects and score have helped defined Star Wars over the decades and would elevate any Star Wars VR experience. If Star Wars fans could experience the Battle of Yavin with 3D audio and the improved visuals of the PS VR2 headset, it could very well be an example of the type of VR gaming experience that makes fans insist on having a VR headset. The excitement and intensity of the Death Star trench run in A New Hope would become one of the most sought after gaming experiences for Star Wars fans if it was done right.

Live in the Star Wars Universe Through VR

Aside from living through epic moments in Star Wars through VR, there are the endless possibilities of just being able to explore the vast and diverse locations throughout the Star Wars universe. Players could visit Coruscant, make the Kessel Run with cargo, have a drink at the cantina from A New Hope, or explore Exogol while truly feeling like they live in the universe. Traveling throughout the Star Wars universe and discovering what could be a huge amount of Easter Eggs and story elements would be an incredible experience for many fans.

Star Wars Tales From the Galaxy's Edge looks to be a great start in what the PS VR2 has to offer Star Wars fans, but it should be just the beginning. With a little more investment in VR from Star Wars, the galaxy far, far away could be getting a lot closer to fans' VR headsets over the next few years.
