Most Star Wars fans know that George Lucas’ penchant for single-environment planets has no end. Desert planets, city planets, planets with never ending rain, and ice planets are common archetypes found within the Star Wars universe. One particular Star Wars planet escaped scrutiny for some time now; however fans will not have to settle for only the glimpses of this place in Episode III and IV any longer!

The developers of Star Wars: The Old Republic have announced the inclusion of the planet of Alderaan to the already exhausting list of environments for the follow up MMORPG to the successful single-player Knights of the Old Republic franchise.

This is an interesting addition to the fan-favorite game series as Alderaan is one of the more diverse locations in the Star Wars universe. The location will break the single environment-per-location trend of other planets and moons found throughout the Star Wars Universe. Players can expect cities, caves, ice capped mountains and vast fields as backdrops to battle the Sith on Alderaan.

Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place 300 years after the events of the first game, but 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader. The game is scheduled for release in 2010 on PC.

It seems that between the relatively successful Clone Wars series, recent Hasbro releases and expanded universe games such as this one, Star Wars is still alive and kicking. Are you on board for more of the force, or has it been unleashed one too many times?
