With only a few weeks before Star Wars: Squadrons releases, EA is giving fans more details on how they will progress through the game, which lets players dogfight using some of the most iconic ships in the Star Wars franchise.

Matches range from 5v5 battles to massive, multi-stage conflicts known as Fleet Battles. Players have the option to customize their pilot and starship with aesthetic enhancements and various upgrades that can change the way their ships fight and fly. In order to unlock these upgrades, players have to complete challenges and operations, in addition to leveling up their pilot.

Completing daily challenges will reward players with Glory, a currency that can be used to unlock cosmetic upgrades. While completing challenges is the main source of Glory, it can also be obtained by performing well during matches. Daily challenges are rotating, timed objectives players can complete that usually include simple objectives, such as completing a certain amount of matches or destroying enemy ships. In many ways, they look to be designed similarly to Star Wars Battlefront’s daily challenges.

There are also Operational Challenges tied to the game’s Operations mode that can reward players with unique cosmetics not obtainable in any other way. Operations occur in eight-week cycles, and each new Operation offers a unique set of cosmetic upgrades. This means that if a player does not complete an Operation’s Challenges, they may miss out on that Operation’s cosmetic upgrades unless is eventually returns. There are also unique items that can be obtained by pre-ordering the game.

Fleet Battle ranks are also tied to Operations in Star Wars: Squadrons. Fleet Battle ranks reset with each new Operation, allowing for players to have a chance at reaching a higher rank every eight weeks. When an Operations ends, players will receive Glory based on the highest rank that they reached, and reaching the three highest ranks of Valiant, Legend, or Galactic Ace will reward players with exclusive helmets.

Every player also has their own personal level that, unlike battle ranks, never reset. Players can level up by gaining experience, which is earned from playing the game. Each level up to 40 unlocks Requisition points that are used to purchase new ship components. Unlike cosmetics, ship components may change the way a starfighter operates, meaning that different starship builds will encourage different play styles. After a player reaches level 40, they will have received enough Requisition points to unlock all the game's components.
