Star Wars: Squadrons will give players complete control over how realistic their experience is, EA has confirmed. The game will allow players to customize a variety of HUD elements and other aspects of the game, giving players either a "standard" experience or something a bit more authentic and hardcore, for those that want it.

In an interview with IGN, Star Wars: Squadrons Creative Director Ian S. Frazier detailed the options players will have in Squadrons, which will range from things as simple as disabling the HUD, leaving players with the cockpit readouts for all essential information, to options disabling other players' cosmetics, making the game seem closer to what fans have seen in the films. However, cosmetics are designed to seem "plausible" in the Star Wars mythos, so it may not be necessary.

Star Wars: Squadrons is a first-person experience, which sets it up to be one of the most realistic Star Wars games yet. Not to mention, it features support for flight sticks on PC, giving players an even higher ceiling for skilled play. The emphasis on squad communication and a solid skill curve is a recipe for success, especially for dedicated players.

Despite the customization available in regards to UI, players may want to consider starting with the basic options, unless they have a solid amount of experience with other flying games. According to Frazier, turning on certain advanced settings, like power management, isn't the experience EA wants to give to the "average new user."

Luckily, fans will have plenty of time to learn the nuances for Star Wars: Squadrons after it launches, and there's likely no harm in learning the basics with the simplified systems before moving on to more advanced playstyles in the future. So far, Star Wars: Squadrons looks like one of the most promising Star Wars projects EA has created to date, which isn't bad considering Star Wars: Squadrons is a budget-priced game.

For those that are really after an immersive experience, Star Wars: Squadrons will have PlayStation VR support, making it feel even closer to real life. EA hasn't said anything about Star Wars: Squadrons on next-gen yet, but if it does make it to new systems, fans could get an even deeper experience.

Star Wars: Squadrons will release October 2, 2020, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
