Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be added to the Disney Plus streaming service much earlier than expected, Disney has announced. The movie was also released early on digital and became available to buy on platforms such as Amazon Video and iTunes.

Disney has confirmed that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be available on Disney Plus starting from May 4, 2020. May 4, known as "Star Wars Day" because of how closely "May the 4th" sounds like "may the force," will also see the debut of several other pieces of Star Wars content.

Fans of The Mandalorian will be able to enjoy a new documentary about how the show was made, called Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. The series finale of animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars will also be added to Disney Plus on May 4.

The decision to add all of this new content to Disney Plus is great for Star Wars fans looking for something to do while they are in quarantine because of COVID-19. However, it also helps Disney to keep making a huge amount of money while other, major parts of its business have closed operations because of the disease. The company's CEO Bob Iger is staying on to help it get through this difficult time and his leadership, with the strength and success of Disney Plus could be hugely important for its profits.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is available digitally right now.
