If Star Wars: The Old Republic is known for anything besides its excellent storytelling, it would be its fantastic cinematic trailers. The Old Republic just released the sixth installment of its cinematic trailers in the form of “Disorder”–a companion story to its newest expansion, Legacy of the Sith.

The Old Republic launched alongside three cinematics setting up the Jedi and the Galactic Republic, its struggle against the Sith Empire, and introducing several important characters. Two more cinematics came out later, exploring the backstory of SWTOR's Fallen Empire storyline. “Disorder” follows suit, setting the stage for the drama of its newest expansion.

This cinematic introduces Sa’har, a Jedi padawan and her master, Orr. It explores her backstory briefly before diving into the action: a confrontation with a Sith warrior who seeks an ancient machine of unknown origin. Midway through, SWTOR poster boy Darth Malgus appears to fight the Jedi–all while trying to turn Sa’har against her master by shedding light on the true colors of the Jedi and Sith. Armed with the seeds of doubt, he emerges victorious, leaving young Sa’har questioning everything she ever knew.

The key art for The Old Republic: Legacy of the Sith featured many characters; most were recognizable, and those who weren't had been introduced in subsequent previews. However, a lightsaber-wielding twi’lek woman was front and center of the art, and when asked about her, SWTOR simply said she was a new character who would play an important role in the expansion pack. From her appearance and color of her lightsaber, it is safe to say this mysterious character is Sa’har, and that her journey, struggle, and dynamic with Darth Malgus will be important to Legacy of the Sith.

“Disorder” has stirred up tons of hype for the new The Old Republic expansion, receiving over 60,000 views in just a couple of hours. With six years since “Betrayed,” its last cinematic, many wondered if The Old Republic would release another, especially since SWTOR just re-released all of its previous trailers in 4k. With “Disorder,” The Old Republic has once again delivered a gripping Star Wars story in just a few minutes of animation, thanks to the team of Industrial Light & Magic.

However, an awesome cinematic alone does not make a good MMORPG expansion. Legacy of the Sith introduces tons of new content and systems to SWTOR, but has already hit a few bumps. Legacy of the Sith was delayed for two months past SWTOR’s 10 years anniversary, and the maintenance for the expansion patch has been extended beyond its original time, meaning the game may not be playable until the day after its February 15th launch. The venerable MMO has promised at least a full year of content for its anniversary celebration and Legacy of the Sith, and fans of The Old Republic hope BioWare can deliver on its promises despite its hardships.
