Earlier this week, Lucasfilm debuted a new subseries consisting of comics and novels titled Star Wars: The High Republic. With the launch of the multimedia initiative, the company also expanded and rebranded the official eras of the Star Wars timeline.

The stories of Star Wars: The High Republic will be set 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, a period regarded as the golden age of the Jedi order during which there was peace throughout the galaxy. The launch of the High Republic initiative included Marvel's Star Wars: The High Republic #1  and a novel written by Justin Ireland titled A Test of Courage, both of which contained the new official Star Wars timeline can be found within their opening pages.

Prior to the High Republic initiative, the Star Wars saga was divided into three distinct eras known as the "Age of Republic," "Age of Rebellion," and "Age of Resistance." Of course, the Star Wars saga has expanded since that time to include multiple television shows and written works, prompting Lucasfilm to expand its timeline to include six eras. Following the "High Republic" era is the "Fall of the Jedi" period, which consists of all films in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Afterward,  The Bad Batch and Solo: A Star Wars Story will chronicle the "Reign of the Empire" period while "The Age of Rebellion" will be comprised of Rebels, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and the original trilogy. Disney Plus' The Mandalorian is currently the sole entry within "The New Republic Era" while "The Rise of the First Order" period will be marked by Resistance and the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

While the High Republic era has not been depicted on screen yet, Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is currently developing a Disney Plus show for Lucasfilm that will be set towards the end of the prosperous period. During Disney's Investor Day presentation, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy described Headland's series, titled Star Wars: The Acolyteas a mystery-thriller that will focus on the emergence of Dark Side powers. Further details on the series were not provided, though initial reports on the project stated it would be "female-centric."

While The Mandalorian remains the sole representative of the "New Republic Era," Kennedy also announced a slate of projects that will be set during the same period. Among these projects will be Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka, two Disney Plus shows that will culminate with a crossover event alongside The Mandalorian.

However, one of the more anticipated Star Wars shows for Disney Plus is the series centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi. In addition to seeing Ewan McGregor reprise his role as the exiled Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi will reunite the lead actor with former prequel trilogy co-star Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader.

The Star Wars saga is now available on Disney Plus.
