One thing Star Wars fans and gamers have wanted for a long time is a proper remake or remaster of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. But despite it recently coming to Xbox One via the console's backward compatibility, it seems fans will be waiting longer now. After all, the fan remake of the game by Poem Studios have effectively been shut down by Lucasfilm.

For the uninitiated, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Apeiron has been a fan made remake project in the works for some time. The developers took it upon themselves to try to deliver a project everyone wanted, with it being developed with the Unreal 4 Engine.

In truth, the game showed tons of promise, as many new designs and KOTOR characters have been showcased in in-game videos. Essentially, the letter (as seen below) reveals that Poem Studios was using Lucasfilm's IP in an unauthorized manner, resulting in the shut down of the website and any social media directly tied to the remake.

This is rather unfortunate for the fanbase but also the developer who has put years of work into this project, but of course, Poem Studios knew this was a possibility. For the fanbase, this situation would be better if they could take solace in the fact that a real remaster, remake, or threequel was coming, but fans shouldn't expect BioWare to make another Star Wars game anytime soon.

In fact, BioWare general manager Casey Hudson recently revealed to do so would require the majority of the studio, and currently, the studio has a number of projects(not all of which are currently being pushed) such as the launch of Anthem, on-going support for the Old Republic, and further development of IPs such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect. It seems fans will never get an answer to the age-old question: "Will we ever see Knights of the Old Republic 3?"

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is available now.
