Announced last September, many Star Wars fans were immediately excited to hear that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic would be getting a remake. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of BioWare's classic RPGs, giving fans a completely new Star Wars experience set thousands of years before the events of the film series. While excitement for this modern remake was running rampant following its announcement, the hype has died somewhat following recent news on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.

Towards the end of July, a new report claimed that development on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake had been indefinitely delayed, following developer Aspyr showing a demo to Lucasfilm and Sony that was poorly received. While Aspyr was allegedly content with what it displayed, the poor reception of the demo led to staff being told the game was nowhere near what it needed to look like for release, and that the idea that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake could be released this year was scrapped.

While development was left on hold at Aspyr, it seems that a new company may be overseeing the creation of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. Aspyr's parent company, Saber Interactive, will reportedly now be taking on the development of the game. This has been further confirmed by Embracer Group, which stated that one of its "AAA projects has transitioned to another studio."

Saber Interactive was already reportedly overseeing a lot of the development on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic's remake, so it makes sense that the experienced studio would take on the task of completing the game. However, this does not mean that the game will return to its previously planned release date of this year. It still seems that the lengthy delay will push back Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake's release to around 2025, as per a previous Bloomberg report.

Saber Interactive is an experienced developer, with a wide variety of games under its belt. Its most recent release was Evil Dead: The Game, which received fairly mixed reviews on console but a generally favorable reception for PC. With this company at the helm, hopefully development on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake can continue, but even if the work on the game is done quickly, it will still likely be a few years before fans see anything of it.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is reportedly in development at Saber Interactive.
