Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the classic RPG, is coming back in a big way. Not only was BioWare's 2003 hit released on Nintendo Switch in November 2021, but a remake is currently being worked on by Aspyr for PC and PlayStation 5. As Knights of the Old Republic fans know, though, the series has two games in it. Now Obsidian Entertainment's sequel getting a similar deal from Nintendo. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 is now confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 was released in 2004, just one year after the original RPG. Despite the pressure of following up a very successful and critically acclaimed game from BioWare, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 lived up to its predecessor and even, for some, exceeded it. It's perhaps surprising then that Knights of the Old Republic 2 hasn't been ported to modern platforms yet, though it's been available via backward compatibility on Xbox platforms.

Like with the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the sequel is being brought to the Nintendo Switch by Aspyr. Aspyr is also the studio working on the Knights of the Old Republic remake. Aspyr is a subsidiary of Embracer Group and Saber Interactive, chosen for the role based on its past Star Wars work. It not only ported the Knights of the Old Republic games to mobile and Linux platforms, but also ported Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight 2, Episode 1 - Racer, Republic Commando, and The Force Unleashed to Switch over the past several years.

While Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 looks to be a fairly straightforward port to Switch, there is one surprising addition that was also confirmed. At the end of the port's announcement trailer, Aspyr also mentions a "Restored Content DLC" coming soon. This seemingly refers to a mod for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for PC that fixed hundreds of bugs and brought back a significant amount of cut content.

The scope of the Restored Content DLC isn't clear right now, but it goes to show that Aspyr is dedicated to delivering a version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic that's more than just a simple port. Building goodwill ahead of the Knights of the Old Republic remake isn't a bad idea.

Now that Aspyr is bringing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 to the Nintendo Switch, questions are going to crop up regarding a remake of the sequel. Since Aspyr ported both games to Nintendo Switch and is development the remake, too, it only makes sense for a sequel remake, too. It's a very exciting time to be a fan of Knights of the Old Republic.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 releases June 8 on Switch.
