It was relatively simple to max out Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's skill tree before finishing the main quest, but that won't be the case for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, according to director Stig Asmussen. During a recent Game Rant interview, Asmussen talked about how one player request was more story and content outside the golden path, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is designed to support that.

It's no surprise that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is bigger than its predecessor, that's the case for most sequels, but it's good to know about the passion put forth into expanding the world as a whole, not just its core story. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's skill tree offers a lot more depth and variety than Fallen Order, in part due to some of Cal's new combat stances, but the main story won't be enough to unlock everything. That said, Asmussen is clear that players can get to a point where they have everything; they're just going to have to invest more into the game.

"It's not the same way we did the economy in Fallen Order," Asmussen explained, so players will need to explore beyond the main story to unlock everything. Of course, all gamers are different, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor keeps this in mind. There's a new difficulty that's basically between medium and very easy, there are plenty of exploration options, there are more touches of story in the world, and there are more ways to exercise Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's combat.

In giving all of this more depth, players are able to focus on what they enjoy most or do everything they come across. As Asmussen said,

"The game is bigger, and there are more opportunities to engage with things beyond the main quest. Much more than the first game."

We asked if there were specifically any postgame concepts in mind such as more challenging bosses, something that is very common in soulslike games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Elden Ring's Malenia, as a recent example, was a huge challenge for the entire community, with some folks taking hundreds of tries to beat her. In response, Asmussen said, "I don't want to answer that specifically because I don't want to spoil the macro design of the game."

How Respawn Entertainment expands on its Star Wars world remains to be seen, but this approach to more story content and so on will likely go a long way in how Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is received in the end.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches on April 28, 2023, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
